Things are changing Part 2

Howdy, I got some rest last night, I slept to 9 am. Woke up to snow but, not a lot. To start off with I had a weird breakfast this morning,  fruit cake, yep, you heard right, lol.

Slab some butter and you have breakfast.
Last night's dinner was something I haven't had in a long time. Hot Roast Beef sandwich with steamed vegetables.  It was good.

Then, for a late night snack, it got really weird. Cold boiled potatoes with salt and pepper. LOL

Here is a breakfast some of you never heard of  Scrapple, I remember my mom making it as a little kid. You slice it and pan fry it to a golden brown.

Here is the package listing the ingredients.

Took a couple of photos of Mt. Denali and Mt. Foraker a couple of days ago.

Driving into the Village of Willow.

Well, that's enough for today,  I still have more to post and will do so in a couple of days. Thanks for checking in. Take care.

I had to google Scrapple! I've never heard of it before or seen it at the grocery store. Is it popular in Alaska? Where do you find it? Hot roast beef sandwich sounds good...I love hot turkey sandwiches too!

I would totally eat cold potatoes as a snack.

Hi 518, I'm not sure if it is popular in Alaska, you can buy it on Amazon. It's the only place I've seen it sold. Hot turkey sounds good with French fries.

Hi Mary, cold boiled potatoes are really good. I eat them whole as well.

Hey John
I remember my Grandma feeding us scrapple. Haven't eaten much beef in the last 50 yrs, but I have put away a lot of crock pot roast moose with the spuds, carrots and onions cooked on top of the roast.. I wonder how many million photos of Mt Denali have been taken from that same pull out coming into Willow?? On a sunny day that's the best view of the Mountain.,
stay warm

Hey John, I was thinking one day about cooking Scrapple and found it online. That pullout is a favorite of everyone. I'm down to my last Moose Roast, , bummer. I have one salmon and one Halibut fillet left.

Hi John,

I’ve been having computer problems- can follow but not comment until now.

Glad to hear that you are keeping well, your place looks great as usual.
Been hitting -30s in central Ontario lately so I feel the chill on the way to the outhouse.
I have heard of scrapple but have never seen it before, looks like Spam.
My Newfie friends eat fried bologna and it is really good too. Slice off a steak and cook it up!

Later,
Evano.

Hi Evano, glad you got your computer problems fixed. It's sorta like spam but, not solid like spam. It does get a bit cold in the outhouse at -35 for sure. I enjoy fried bologna, I have it quite a bit. I have been known to fry it up and put it between my pancakes. Later

John.....I was raised in Philadelphia and Scrapple is particularly popular there. I now live about 75 miles away from Philadelphia and am amazed how many folks have never heard of it or had it. My favorite way to eat it is to brown it in a pan until the outside is crunchy but the inside is still soft and then accompany it with some mac and cheese and a wee bit of green veggie. If you like Scrapple, you might want to try pepper pot soup - that also was a popular item in Philadelphia and is quite good - has a kick to it and warms you up from the inside out! If you are interested, here is a link that provides some info on the soup......(and the philly recipe)

Hi Chris, thanks. I also like my Scrapple on the crunchy side. I've had pepper pot soup before and it is good. It's been awhile since I've had it. I will check that recipe out. Thanks for the heads up.

Hi John, I'm one of those people who also happen to like fruit cake although this holiday season I forgot to pick some up and no I know made any. lol I have heard of that scrapple and now I'm curious and going to add it to the shopping list and give it a try. The cabin is looking great. That's not easy, working out in the snow and very cold temps, fingers get numb quickly and tools get slippery and wet. Hope your winter's going well, take care, M.

Hi M, thanks for stopping by. You can find Scrapple on Amazon, give it a try. I know about cold fingers, no matter what I wear, my fingers get cold {old age}, LOL. Winter has become more tolerable now that we are getting close to the end. Days are getting longer.
