2021 comes in with a bang

Hi everyone, well 2021 has come in full force, lol. This isn't what I expected but, it is what it is. LOL

I've had this cold weather most of this week so,I am staying in. just made my coffee and am enjoying it.
                           Breakfast this morning
I told you all that I was changing over to an oil drip stove and I did.
But, it turns out I didn't like it, it smelled and it wasn't all that great in really cold weather so, I changed it out and replaced it with my trusty old wood stove.
I sure missed the warmth that wood gives and the pure enjoyment watching the flames dancing around as I sat watching it. I would turn the lights out, light a few candles and hot chocolate and I am all set.

I even did some work in my cabin to make it more cozy

I bought a futon and I tried sleeping on it but, it's not as comfortable as the floor, lol. In case you are wondering about the black thing on the back, it is a Black Bear rug.

Hopefully it will get a bit nicer where it will be more comfortable to get out and do something. Just a reminder, wishing you all a Happy and safe 2021.

                                       Take care

That's pretty cold! I agree with you about the wood heat. There is nothing else like it.
As usual, your food makes me hungry! LOL You should be a chef.
Your cabin really looks nice. You have really made it into a nice home. I agree about the futon, aka "torture rack".
Take care and stay warm.

Happy New Year to you.
Just wondering, when it's that cold outside, how fast can you move when you step outside to the out house??
Take care...!!

Hi Midwestgal, it tasted good as well. It's supposed to warm up in a couple of days so hopefully I can take my camera out and get some photos. Take care

LOL, stepping out isn't the problem, it's the sitting down at first that gets you. The rest is history.

Looking pretty fancy man.
We use Celsius in Kanada, but that is cold enough that converting it doesn’t matter. That is just cold Brrr
Always an inspiration. Good to hear from you, looking forward to your posts in 2021!

Happy New Year Evano, it's been cold most of the week. Suppose to warm up this coming week. Hope it does, I have work to do. I can't believe how the cabin has changed from the beginning. Take care

Hey John
Sorry to hear the oil stove didn't work out. with these minus temps, I always light the little wood stove we have down here in my "office". if it's -21 at your place it'll be -31 on the river. Not a good day to be traveling. Machinery always starts shattering at these temps. Hey I like the T shirt. where did you get it?

stay warm

Old John

Hi John, everything shatters at these temps. It's still -25 here. Oil drip stoves give off a smell but, I missed the wood heat anyway. I think I got the shirt on Amazon, I'll look and let you know for sure.

Took me a moment before I realized your thermometer didn't read 21 F but actually 21 below zero. Now that is a bit chilly. lol I assume you have plenty of well insulated outdoor gear to manage at those temps. Never gets quite that cold here. If it did, I had always considered getting a pair of those heavy duty boots they call "Mickey Mouse boots", but can't really justify spending the money when it simply doesn't get that cold here. Keep warm, M.

Hiya John wow -21 now that’s knawing arthritis weather OUCH ! We’ve hit mid 20’s couple times but mostly mid 30’s to mid 40’s... heck down south it could be 30 at night & 50’s in day. Been keeping my recliner warm for couple days lol. Got projects to get done tomorrow, need to stir around some.Your place looks cozy and warm. Well take care and have a great week.... Bert From Bama

Hi M, it does tend to get cold here. Yeah. I have all kinds of cold weather gear. Bunny boots do keep your feet warm but, they also make your feet sweat big time. Sucks if you have to take your boot off to dry your feet in the cold.

Hi Bert, now that's the temps. I like, lol. I also have a lot of projects to get done starting tomorrow. Hope it warms up or I am staying inside, lol.

That's some cold weather! We've been in the single digits here but no below zero temps yet. Where do you usually sleep? In your chair? Do you have any plans to head out to your remote cabin soon? Stay warm!

Hi 518, I was sleeping on the futon but, I usually sleep on the floor I sleep good on a hard surface. I have slept in my recliner many times, easy to fall asleep in them. I do have plans to go out but, I have a lot of things to do first. Stay safe

Hi John,
I can't imagine what -21 degrees feels like. And when you say it will warm up tomorrow, what temp are you talking about? -1? -5? Haha.
I don't care for the smell of oil or kerosene heating. Give me the crackle of wood any day. How deep is the snow outside?
I tried a futon too but it hurt my back. Now I make guests sleep on it so they don't stay too long.
I can't wait to start cooking again. I miss a hot breakfast.
Take care!

Happy New Year Passport, This is tomorrow and right now it is 6 degrees and Sunny, you're close. My snow is 3-4 feet. Firewood gives off better heat as well. That's a good way to limit guests stay, lol. Hot breakfasts are the best, even if it's just oatmeal. Take care

I wish it was a bit colder here. Next week it is supposed to be in the 40s. This dry winter has me worried about fire already!

Late Merry Christmas and Happy New Yr!!!! Love the new futon. Didn't you try one of those once before and decide the floor was still the best option? LOL. Im sure you did cause my son ended up with that one. LOL. My son loved the futon as long as it was opened. If it wasn't open it caused him to ache. Just a thought. Glad you have the wood stove for the cold temps. Wood does such a better job of heating I think anyway. (as I sit here watching the flames dancing in my stove as the wind whistles by at 60 mph or so.... LOL)

Hi Mary, with all our snow, we aren't too worried about fires for awhile. Hope you don't get any or bad ones. I sure wish we would have some 40 degree weather, lol. I would be glad to send you some cold weather if I could.

Hi Wash, you are right about the futons, to tell the truth, I'm not so impressed with this one. Yes, I'm glad to have the wood stove back. Wood does provide nicer heat and the flames are much better. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you both.

Happy New Year John. Your cabin looks very warm and inviting. I can appreciate the decision to sleep on the floor versus the futon. Enjoy the season.

Hi Jim, happy New Year to you as well. I have always slept on the floor or something hard. Not sure what it is but, it works for me. Thanks for stopping by.
