Finally, Winter has arrived

Hi folks, finally Winter is here and today it is 22F a little overcast but, still bright. The minus 25 degree weather  for 2 weeks made it impossible to have much fun. I started off this morning with a nice breakfast.

Decided to go outside and split some firewood. This is what it looked before.
This is how it looks now after the cold spell we had.
Here's Aurora playing in the snow. She loves to roll in the snow

I am changing the outside look of my cabin, something a little more cheerful.

                                           Getting ready to split firewood.
I split this log and both pieces went right into the sled, that will never happen again, LOL.

These Birch trees look so nice in the Winter.
Trees look so nice when covered with snow.

I changed my kitchen around, still have more work to do. Gonna add shelves on the wall.

I am in the process of downsizing and sold my big refrigerator and replaced it with a smaller one.

Here is what the living room looks like now, kinda messy but, I will soon start getting rid of things there as well.

There are a lot of  changes coming up. I will close for now and will be working on another blog.  Thanks for those of you who stuck by me.

            Take Care

Ok got it fixed…. an update messed things up. Wow 22 temps sounds like long johns n warm fire n coffee are what’s needed. I’m sure you need a hardy breakfast before splitting wood. The snow is beautiful sure would love to see it, rare occasion we get any. Isn’t it amazing how much stuff a person can accumulate and then soon as you get rid of you need it lol . Been following you a long time and so enjoy your blog. Take care and stay safe n warm …. Bert From Bama

Hi Bert, no problem here.

Thanks Bert, that's Minus 22 temps. Thing is, I have had stuff here for years and never use it so, I won't need it when it's gone. I'm glad you are one of the long timers. I appreciate it much.

Hi John. Heck, you aren't kidding, winter really has set in there. Minus 25 is mighty chilly. The new dog looks like she's settling in well, that's nice. Out of curiosity, how many cords of wood will you go through in a winter in general. Take care, M.

Hi M, thanks for stopping by. I generally can get by with 2 cords. I'm hoping we don't get anymore -25 temps. Aurora is doing fine and is a really good companion.

The cabin looks very cozy! Are you still planning on moving to NY?

Thanks for sharing John. Don’t miss -22 weather but I do miss Alaska. I used to have that same rug in my old place in Wasilla. Lol

Hi Bigfoot, I did use a lot. Now I have to replace it. I hope that cold weather is done for awhile.

Your dog is so cute. I need to catch up on blogs. I can relate to the firewood chopping. Keeps us young I guess.

You had better be stocking up on more wood... we got another cold spell coming looking at this week, a couple days from now...going to start and go through the next week. It is suppose to warm up to 5 above then drop again. Im betting we hit some of those REAL alaskan temps we use to get when I first got here.. betting you all are 40ish below through Jan and we float around 30ish below here and Fairbanks hits 50 to 70 below this yr... Just my feelings. It is nice to have the dry cold and the wind only when it is warmed up to like 27 ish... I have missed the dry cold. I cant stand the wind chills. Anyway cant wait to see what your cabin looks like when your done. Looking good. Boy am I a kill joy huh? I read through the other comments... LOL sorry not trying to be but just saying. Sunday your going to be around 16 below per my temp thing, and then from the 17th to say the 24th your temps will hover lows from 10 to 15 below.

Hi Mary, I'm the same. I don't read the blogs as much as I should. Aurora is a fine dog. Thanks

Hi Wash, hate to burst your bubble but, we have been in the -20'sF for weeks now. Right now 9:50 a.m. Alaska time it is, -26F. I'm done cutting wood, I am going to start buying it. I want time to myself and Aurora. New post coming up soon.

Everything looks great. Honestly, you are living the dream. Alaska. Cabin. Dog. Few hassles. ...and you put some pretty good food on the table, too.

Even just being 50 miles down the road our temps at my house vs your cabin are so different. We stay give or take 15 degrees warmer here but we have the 30 to 50 mph winds here frequently. Temps at my cabin are give or take 5 to 10 degrees warmer as well.
Out where you are your in a cold pocket. I am glad for the cold, minus the wind. I bought wood this yr and ended up with mostly wet wood... have to burn fires about 3 days to get it dry enough to get it started. LOL. Cant wait to see how you have changed things again. Looking forward to new pictures.

Hi Art, I am living the dream and sometimes I don't realize that I am. Bet your bottom dollar, I will start appreciating it more and my new girl Aurora is a big part of it. Take care my friend.
