Visitors

Good morning  everyone. It's a pleasant Sunday morning, got up about 6:30 am. Made coffee and then breakfast. Egg and hashbrowns.
It's a bit chilly outside and toasty inside.
Nice bright morning
In one of my previous post, I showed you a new fancy woodstove I bought.

Well, I just couldn't get to liking it so, I brought my old one back in and it looks natual and belongs.

Now, here is a lesson I learned the other night. Never pick a fight with an arm load of firewood. It was dark, I went out, loaded my arm up with firewood, as I turned there was ice under the snow. I tripped and fell and the wood attacked me.

LOL, I sure will be careful the next time.

Now for the visitors,  yesterday morning,  I was sitting having coffee as my car was warming up to go to town. A shadow caught my eye, it turned out to be a moose calf. What a surprise. I grabbed my phone and took these photos.

As I started out the door to go to town, I noticed movement out my kitchen window. It was the calf and the momma.

It looked like they were going to be there for awhile so, I went out to brush snow off my car and momma decided to check me out.
She came within 3 ft. of my car and figured I wasn't a threat and went back to eating.
Yes, that is a tracking collar on her. Well, that's about it. Enjoy.

Hi John :) OMG your eye! Those nasty bundles of firewood!!! I hope you're better soon, that must have been a shocker.

The moose are just lovely (I nearly wrote "mice" lol). The landscape looks so pleasant with all of that snow...may I say I like the new wood stove better? :)

Hi Rain, I won't let those buggers get the best of me again, lol. I do enjoy the moose myself. The new stove was basically a decoration. The old stove is a working stove. It warms you and you can cook on it.

Hey John

(IMHO) you made a good choice going back to the old Stove. It's more practical. Wind is howling down here, hope it isn't too bad up your way. Curious how that Solar panel will hold up to one of our stiff breezes. Those moose are fascinating to watch this time of year., I have an ancient crab apple tree off to the side of my unfenced yard and they love to keep it pruned.

Nice shiner John.. good story!

Good morning John, yeah, I'm happy to have the old stove back. I don't have any wind here. I made sure the panel is secured real good. I really enjoy watching the moose any time. This is the first shiner I've had in many years. I look at it as a badge of honor at 70 years old, lol

Ouch, if you have any visual changes and or confusion, dizziness, or blow your nose and swell around the eye, etc...please go see someone. That ice will bite, be careful. I have war stories with the ice this yr. Love the moose. That little one looked like he will be on his own here soon, boy will his attitude change then. Lol I like that wood stove you got from sportsman’s way more than your old one and the new one looked very decorative. Guessing it didn’t keep you warm enough. Lol. Missed you by a couple hours today. Went to get my panels. Lol.

I heard moose can be pretty cranky! Were you worried? Your cabin looks so warm and cozy.

Hi John.....Well, My Goodness! What a colorful shiner! When I first accessed your blog and scrolled down through the pictures (without reading it yet), I thought the moose somehow gave you the shiner! Of course that was all clarified once I actually read your post. What does the tracking collar indicate (other than the animal is being tracked, of course)? Why would moose be tracked? Are they in sensitive areas - or is the moose population being impacted in a critical way? Just curious..... Thanks.
P.S. I think the original woodstove is the way to go too, since it is essentially "multi-tasking" for you and that is always more efficient. Enjoy! Chris

Hi Wash, I'm fine, it's healing nicely. The little one will probably get kicked out soon. The new stove kept the cabin somewhat warm but, not in extreme temps. I missed my old stove, that's why I reinstalled it. I'm buying another for my remote cabin.

Hi Mary, moose can get cranky but, I wasn't to worried. I can read them pretty much. I had the car between us and her hair wasn't up or the ears pointing back. She determined I wasn't a threat and left me alone. The cabin is warm and toasty in sub zero weather.

Hi Chris, I'm sure the moose would have given me more than a black eye, lol. Moose are tracked for many reasons, to figure there range, habits, how long they survive in Winter and Spring , Summer, mating habits, etc. I agree on the stove.

Hi John, Oh my goodness that firewood sure put a fight didn't it!! Gotta watch that firewood I have had a few fights with it myself over the years. I am just glad you're ok. You know some wood stoves look nice but are not great heaters. I like your old one too. Now I do have to say I would have been afraid of the momma moose but for you it is everyday life. Boy they sure are big! So much fun watching wildlife. Thanks for sharing the pictures of them with us!
Take care of that eye.

Hi Carol, I have to admit, those short pieces did get the best of me, lol. Things that look good don't necessarily mean they are functional. Even the little guy looked big pressing up against my picture window. I would rather spend time watching wildlife than anything else. Watching parents interacting with their offspring is precious.

Ok, Debbie, just for you, I'll be careful

Glad to hear your healing nicely. I am to, just slightly slower than I want to. I was thinking one of the bigger stoves for my shop.
