My cabin trip

Yep, you read right. Finally made it out to the cabin. My friend Randy put skis on the Supercub he bought from the Alaska State Troopers. This is Randy
This is Randy loading the plane at his house on the lake. His lake is pure ice. The wind was blowing quite a bit and was a bit of a chore trying to taxi away from the tie down.
These are photos taking off and traveling to my cabin. I'm in the seat behind Randy

These are views from above
This is Mt. Susitna, also known as Sleeping Lady. Certain times if you look hard enough, it looks like a lady with long hair sleeping with her arms folded over chest.

This is either a big pond or a small lake, depending on how one looks at it.
Some more photos

When we got to my cabin, we tried landing on the lake but, the temps. were so warm all week, we kept sinking in trying to land. So, we went to the other side of my property and landed on a packed snowmachine trail. This made it so hard to walk to the cabin carrying a bunch of things. Even with snowshoes on, we were sinking up to our knees. I gotta tell ya, I was plain tuckered out by the time we made it to the cabin. The main reason going there was to drop off my remote phone service. We have a company that provides a Yagi antenna and a box much like the one you have for tv. You raise up the antenna and point it towards a remote cell tower then, there are two wires that you hook to a 12 volt battery and hook up any home phone. I will have pictures when I go back. Parked on the trail.

Here are a few photos of the cabin. Had to shovel the snow just to get the door open.

I tied some surveyors tape on trees so if I snowmachine there in a snowstorm, it will be easier to spot.
I would have taken more photos but, the snow was so soft and deep, it was to hard to move around. I will do better the next time. Hope you enjoy, Ii know you all waited a long time. I am looking to go back in a couple of weeks. I told you it is small, lol. Take care.

Checking in

Hi everybody, thought it was time to check in again.  There's not a whole lot going on, Winter is mild right now, seems the East Coast and the South has more Winter than we do. Temps. have been in the 30's and 40's. So, I spent some time outside clearing snow around my snowmmachines.
Had to clear the snow so I could work on my Polaris. I broke the tie rod trying to turn the Polaris around by pulling on the ski.

Drove to the local Polaris dealer, 15 miles away and the tie rod costs $40. Decided to hold off and a friend of mine said he has an old machine he can take one off. Waiting for him to shovel it out and bring it over. In the meantime, the Woodpecker showed up again.

Had a cow moose show up in my yard to eat off the Willows. The picture isn't really good, early morning and through the window.

cause the VA is 80 miles away, they assigned me to get my medical stuff taken care of at the Alaska Native Medical Center.

The people here are really nice and treat the Veterans with much respect and do everything for us. They have a Wellness Center with all kinds of machines to work out on and have me set up for 3 days a week. They also have a dietitian to work out a diet program for me. I really like going there.

I hurt my back again  the  other day so, I made appointments to go back to the Acupuncturist, The VA gave me 8 appointments..

Had a couple of great breakfast and dinners, this is, potatoes o'brian , egg and sausage.
Dinner, Steak, broccoli and sauteed mushrooms and onions
Grilled Salmon on a bed of Oriental noodles and vegetables
Chicken stirfry
Chicken noodle soup

Well, that's pretty much all I have for now, hoping to do better in the near future.  So, Take care.

Sunday ride

I haven't been out in a long time because, it's just been to cold. The temps. have been 0 degrees to -20.
This was the temperature Sunday morning about 7:30 am. I decided to go for a ride anyway. I made me a good breakfast first. It's still dark this time of day so, breakfast is by oil lamp.
About 11:30 am, I left to ride up to Willow Creek, one of my favorite places to go. This is what it looked like when I left.
Took this picture on the way
Got up to my favorite spot

This is a cabin across the creek, no road to it.
How is it accessed, you ask? By handrail, this is how they cross and bring their supplies across.
Pretty neat, eh?
On the way back, I stopped at a parking area where people park their vehicles and off load their snowmachines to hit the trails.

Even when you drive way out on dirt roads and hardly see anyone,  it's hard to get away from modernization.

It was still early so, I decided to take a ride to Deshka Landing in Willow. This is a place where people go to launch their snowmachines  in the Winter and boats in the Summer. Here is where it all happens. People also use it as a staging area for supplies they are taking out to their remote cabins. You pay by the day or by the season.

The road to Deshka

These 55 gallon containers are used to transport gas out to remote cabins

On the way back to the cabin, I stopped at Kashwitna Lake to photograph Denali.

By the time I got back, It was still pretty cold so, this called for something to take the chill off. This is a good soup.

 Macaroni

I sauteed 1/2 lb. ground breakfast sausage, 2 handfuls of sliced mushrooms, 2 cups chopped onions, 2 cups chopped sweet peppers, parsley, couple cloves minced garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Add all these ingredients and  28 oz. of canned diced tomatoes to the macaroni and the water used to cook the macaroni, stir and enjoy.

Well, that pretty much how my Sunday went. Even as cold as it was, it was good to get out and enjoy myself. take care.
