What a life

I feel really good for a change. Before I go on, the person I talked to about trading cabins, seems to busy to come down and look at my cabin. He owns a construction company and is building an airplane hanger right here in the subdivision. I've spoken to him twice and he tells me, he will be down at the end of the day.  Nope, not yet. You would think I would be pissed but, I'm not. Wouldn't do me any good. Enough about this subject.

It's 9:30 pm and 76 degrees. It got to 85 today and for the past week.
I have been feeling pretty good for a couple of weeks, not feeling down. I had to think long and hard. With taking care of 2 properties, it's a lot for one person, especially when you can't just hop in your vehicle for one of them. So, I will concentrate on the town cabin for now. I was on Facebook looking at a site called Homesteading. Someone had made a project out of pallets and it was really kool. Well, I got pallet fever and googled wood pallet projects, when pictures of different projects came up I was hooked. I went to the local Lowes and they told me to go out back and take what I want in their junk pile. I have been going every chance I can and got many pallets. They look like brand new. By the way, Home Depot turned me down.

Here's a couple of projects I made, just something simple.

Spice rack
Before
After
As you can see, I still have pans hanging on the wall with nails. I changed that.

Before
Look to the left of the Spice rack
After
This a no brainer, nail a piece across the bottom, nail to the outhouse and put my shovels, rakes and whatever inside.
With my old tv antenna falling apart, I acquired this one and loss 3 of my 7 channels.
I saw this one on Amazon for $35. The ad claimed it has a range of 180 miles and it has a motor with a remote to rotate the antenna from inside. I am 80 miles North of Anchorage. I put it up today, it works great and have my 7 channels back.
My window flowers and driveway flowers are doing real well.

Well, that's enough for tonight. It's 11:21 and time for bed. I will post again in a couple of days. Good night and take care.

Glad to hear you are out of your "funk"! Nice job with those pallet projects - there are alot of projects on line for pallets. Around here, the pallets are never free, they are sold for at least $5.00 a piece.....yikes! Your flowers are beautiful and in looking at them, I remembered your tomatoes from last year....do you have any veggie plants this year? Enjoy.....Chris

Hi C, thanks. I didn't do a garden this year, thought I was going to be busy going back and forth to the remote cabin to work. still working on that.

What is the name of your antenna?

Bushrat John said...

It's called the Esky Amplified antenna. When you go to Amazon, type tv antennas in the search engine and a whole bunch comes up. You might find one better suited for you. Good luck.

Thanks John, I need to find a way to get off of Dish Network the price just keeps going up & up and being on a limited income,(teachers retirement), I never seem to catch up.

I envy you and your life in Alaska things seem so calm and simple there, and yes I know living there takes a lot of work unless you are in one of the big cities; being in the bush appeals to me I like doing things the old fashioned way it gives one a sense of accomplishment. My children can't understand why I can, sew, weave, and knit just about everything I wear and eat and I don't understand them as they were raised on our 40 acre farm in Upstate NY and did all the things needed to make the farm run along with my husband and I somehow it didn't stick.

Right now we live in the Ozark Mountains on 3 acres, I have a veggie garden and I live as close to mother nature as possible, trying to hang in their until we see how things are going to turn out after the elections. We have a lot of deer and rabbits to go along with the veggies and I have put by as much as possible so will get along no matter what goes on we'll make it for sure. My husband hasn't been well in a long, long time so we don't raise animals to help fill the freezer but the g-sons always get several deer and share with us; actually it is easier then raising our own. This weekend I picked a ton of wild berries so it 's jelly time in my kitchen a lot of work now, but so good when the fall and winter days come around.

Happy your feeling better we all get blue days glad you worked through it. Smile.

Thanks C, hope your husband gets well. My sister lives in Upstate N. Y. I've been there and it is beautiful, especially in the Fall. It's good to have gains to bring you meat. Yes, having jelly for bread, muffins, etc. out of the oven, Mmmm! I checked your profile, at the end, you asked a ?. How about "Life as it should be" ?

Hi! John, it's great when you can find a new use for a discarded item! The pallet projects are nice, I have found a lot of neat ideas on Pinterest site for pallets , gardening , recipes etc. I never checked out Facebook for ideas. How's your weather. The lower 48 is really warm and our area is very dry, watching the water usage! Glad you are keeping busy and it always makes life interesting when you have projects in the works! Thanks for having an interesting post! Take care, KC

Hi KC, I do enjoy making use of free pallets. I have strange weather here. The days have been 71-90 and the nights are all over the place, 49-71. Just doesn't seem to be a norm or average. Oh well, that's life. Take care

Love the spice rack. Hoping all turns out the way you want it to as far as the land and cabins. Should be ordering wood this next week, Tuesday and start the build post that.

Hi John, Isn't it amazing what you can do with pallets! We get them here too for kindling, stacking wood on and sometimes they come with lots of really great boards on them for making things like you did John. I love the spice rack and the pot rack! Neat idea for the shovels and rakes too. Your flowers look great, very pretty colors.
It has been warm here too but it is the humidity that drives me crazy. We have had quite a few thunderstorms and warnings lately too, seems more than usual to me. How about there do you get bad thunderstorms in Alaska?

Thanks Wash, it's not looking good for the cabin swap. That's ok.

Hi Carol, thanks. I plan on a lot more projects. The weather here has been rain, rain and rain. We did get some thunder but, I saw no lightning although, it has been reported, the Interior had 18,000 lightning strikes causing more fires.

Washkeeton said...

I'm sorry about the swap, what about your remote place? As far as getting out there this fall and being able to work on it?

Not to worry, some things work, some don't. I've changed my attitude when it comes to things not working out. I'm sorting a plan now for the remote cabin.

Love your pallet conversions! Friends are rehabbing an 1800s cabin here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Saw inside it yesterday and they have used pallets for spice rack, book shelves and CD shelf. I'll have to tell them about your shovel/rake holder.

northco said...

And we use pallets for boardwalks through the wetter areas on our property. They come free here, too.

Bushrat John said...

Hi Northco, pallets are a great way tosave money on home projects. The pallet with the tools is a good idea. I'm always laying a tool somewhere and can't find it. I like the UP, it is beautiful up that way. If I were to leave Alaska, it would be a place I could live.

Do they not have satellite television up there? I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains, there's no over the air tv here , for love or money. The mountains block the signals. So I had to go with satellite tv. It has it's own set of problems but up there where you don't have big thunders storms it should be ok.

Bushrat John said...

Hi Harry, there's sat. TV and Internet. I don't care for either. I get 7 channels with my new antenna and that's fine with me. I may buy another one and try it at the remote cabin. If it works, fine. If it doesn't, I'll sell it, trade it or donate it. Either way.
