I enjoy listening to radio, music is among my favorite listening. In the older days, we used to listen to shows on the radio, Superman, Lone ranger, Sargent Preston of the Yukon (my favorite) and a few others. Used to be a few Alaska local radio shows that would send messages to people living in the Bush who had no other communications. This is how bush people would know what's going on with relatives and friends living among civilization.
Now days, seems radio has turned to nastiness, sure you can find music, medical, electronic and other self help stations. But, the radio mostly weekdays is Political talk radio and it seems dominated by Conservative talk shows and listening to them, they will tell you that no other political party is good for this country, especially Democrats (Liberals). The name calling is atrocious at times.
This post is not meant to be political and this is as close to posting a political post as I will get. The purpose of this post is to point out how entertainment on radio has changed. I miss listening to the old time shows on the radio. As a child when I listened to the old time shows, I actually listened to it and always imagined myself as Sgt. Preston, Danial Boone, Davy Crockett. When you think about it, TV isn't much better. Makes me thankful for videos and dvds.
I miss the days when friends of my dad would come by on their dogsleds, all bundled up in their skins and fancy hats, some not so fancy. They would all be sitting around the table having a meal of stew or soup, homemade bread and steaming hot coffee or tea. When done, they would light up their pipes and cigars and talk about everything that was going on with themselves.
It seems we have gotten away from that life. We are told on a daily basis, that our lives have gotten better and that we are better off than the early days. I don't believe that for a moment. It seems today, it's all about having the nicest homes, the newest cars and the gadgets that go with them, the latest electronics, I think you get my drift.
The reason I haven't blogged lately is, I have been keeping to myself and evaluating my life and all the things I have amassed. So I have started downsizing everything I have and will evaluate my life a bit more. I have been boxing up food to take out to my remote cabin and a few other things. I will transport everything or close to it by the end of March.
I purchased the complete series of Sgt. Preston and another program that most Canadians are familiar with, North of 60. It's about Native people in a fictional village called Lynx River and all the problems that occur when the outside world comes to the village. I have not seen or heard of a program that portrays a Native village as real as this program.
Anyway,, I have to reevaluate my life and be more serious about it. I apologize for not blogging lately, just nothing real exciting going on at the moment kinda lost a bit of interest in doing it. I figured I have lost most of the people who followed my blog because of boredom and I don't blame them as I get bored with me at times as well.
Hopefully, things will turn around soon. Take care

Be careful with that reevaluating business. Looking inwards too much can make things go to the dark side. Kind of like driving and looking at your feet and you can't see where you are going. I prefer to focus outwards and find inspiration in the panorama outside the window.
Hey Mike, Hmmm! Interesting thought, I think. To be truthful, not sure what that means, or, maybe I do, lol.
Hi! John, I guess I am one of those that haven't posted a response for a while, not because your blog is boring, but just the long winter doldrums.we have had one of the coldest winters in a lot of years and lots of snow too. ( This past week it warmed up and made a small batch of maple syrup. )I always enjoy what you have to say, and love the picts, but I guess just lazy to type a response. Sorry! PS it's great to look ahead but always embrace each day in what you have! Take care, KC
Ah John I agree with the T.V. programming. The other night there was a commercial about a cartoon channel and I said what happened to Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner. I don't like the cartoons now a days. Nothing wrong with downsizing and keeping things simple. Sometimes we do loose interest in life but that's normal and then we bounce back again. In the winter things are quiet. As for getting bored with your blog...not me! I enjoy your photos and hearing about everyday life in Alaska and even how your weather is! Thanks for posting John.
Carol
I'm with Carol, I don't get bored with your blog - no matter how mundane your posts are. I always find them a treat.
Indeed always my favourite Blog!
I turned off the TV several years ago and haven't turned it back on once. Don't miss it at all.
Suggest every one do the same.
I'm a bit of a minimalist myself. Physical possessions are nothing but a burden on your soul.
Today is a good day. Enjoy it!
Ok, I can let you slide for a gallon of that syrup, lol
Hi Carol, I'm usually pretty upbeat but this Winter has been so disappointing. Oh well, I'll bounce back. Thanks for visiting
Thank you, I think, lol
Hi Evano, Thanks, I agree and I am really minimizing this time.
Hi john I went on my blog today for the first time in months and found a kind comment from you which I had not seen or replied to, very many apologies for that! Your blog's fascinating for this urban Brit. I can't imagine life where I couldn't just pop to the corner shop for everything I need. Hope it warms up for you soon! Best wishes Rachel in England
Thanks Rachel, I enjoyed your blog, hope you write more. I really like the photos of the old buildings, they are beautiful. Hope you return to blogging.

Yeah, sometimes the "blahs" just xome and go. Up here, it's cabin fever. Sometimes I get bored doing what I do. Hang in there.
I don't look at your posts as nagging, you're just giving me a kick start, which I Need sometimes.
well then no more kick starts from me, John. I've enjoyed your posts, but if you're not feeling in the mood, then I will respect that. I won't be posting again, but I have enjoyed your blog. winter is an evil beast that rears it's head no matter how much we think it won't. spring is near, so now I just lastly will truly wish you the very best!!!
Sorry to hear that Debbie, if that's how you feel, take care
Ya, Im not bored either... just in the process of "downsizing" LOL
Wash
hey wash, good to know you're still with us, lol. How is that downsizing working out for ya?
Got my sons room completely cleaned out, scrubbed down the window, walls, tossed everything we didnt want to keep and washed everything that was washable. Sold off what we could. We have more to down size in there but it is a start. Got started on the living room and reorganized and sorted the hallway stuff. We got that all done on his spring break. I believe if we can take on one area of the house per week we could have everything cleaned out and sold off in about 2 months. That is really a tall order but I believe we could have it done. Now just to get him on board with this plan. LOL
You doing better with the increased sunshine? Im feeling so much better since it seems to be more sunny and warm. Even have had the windows and doors open for a while each day. Been 45 to 48 here.
Wash
Never bored with your blog! I love reading about your life!
Hi Kimberly, thanks. Glad you enjoy my blog.
Geez Wash, guess you have been busy, keep it and you will be ready to make your move.
Not so quick there... I fell and injured my self at work about october-ish. It will take six months or so for the bone to heal and about 2 yrs they say before my back is about normal, that is if I don't need surgery some time in there. No heavy lifting and or labor. LOL Ya... what fun.
Wash
Whoa there Wash, what are you doing? Thought I was the one to do all the falling? lol. Sorry to hear about that, hope you are not in pain, make sure you put boy to workk. Get well soon.
I guess I should clarify... My son did all the physical labor, I was the guider. He was here for 12 days, Spring break... Im just hanging out doing absolutely nothing and am bored to tears. He came, I guided, he hauled and cleaned, and scrubbed. LOL Sorry. I should have clarified that. He has been a really great help for the last 5 months.
Wash
Glad you are resting, when my back and leg had severe pain, the VA sent me to Acupunture in Wasilla. After a few sessions, I am pain free. Give it a try. You did raise that young man right.
Hi John... I sure am not one to tell you what is best in life, I don't really like what is going on in the world right now, but I can pick and choose what I want to let affect me or not, and of course it does get to ya though.
There is not much you can do about it. It's like a pot of stew..you may not like the peas in it, but you can pick around them, and still eat it!!
I'm not sure going back to what used to be would be the answer for me.
I think Mike said it well.
Your decision John!!
Grace
Thanks grammie, advice well taken
