Hi everyone, I have another trip coming up on Monday the 23rd. I will be going back to Alexander Creek to caretake my friends cabin again and will be there about a week. The battery I ordered for my laptop came but, was the wrong one so, they will send me the right one right away. But, I figured how to download photos on my new tablet and will have photos when I return to put on my post.
When I return, I am hoping that the rivers will be solid enough to travel to my remote cabin and take things there. I am hoping for a friend of mine to travel with for safety and company. It's been a long time coming. The weather here has been crazy, +48 to +50 during the day and +20 to +30 at night.
I have started doing my Spring cleaning and cutting trees to expand my property and bring in more fill. Then fly out to the cabin and start preparing it to live there. The biggest job will be cutting firewood. The Winters out there are much colder than in town. I'm sure I will have tons to blog about when I get the ball rolling.
Well, it's 11:45 pm here and I will call it a night. Take care

Hey John, you are still warmer than here in Maine. We still have 3 feet of snow on the ground and temps stay around freezing or lower at night.
Hi Mike, this has been the strangest Winter in Alaska history or for as long as I can remember. I am very jealous of you. Keep shoveling
Can you post a map or diagram of where (generally) your city and remote cabins are?
Not being familiar with Alaska would help us understand the logistic issues you have up north.
Thanks
Bigfoot in TX
John, Im thinking winter has bit the dust for this yr. That is unless, for some odd reason, it decides to come back with force. Last yr we melted in the first part of April. Here we are at the end of March and even my friends in Fairbanks are cheering the 40 and 50 degree weather. Don't know but Im thinking the way things are headed we are going to continue on this weather pattern for a while.
Wash
Hi Wash, I think you are right, I really don't see Winter sticking around either.
Hi Bigfoot, I will see what I can do. I have to figure a way to do it without giving the exact route and exact location of my cabin.
I'd like to know general location of the cabin too. Not to stalk you, haha, but just curious. I always wonder how people have land up there as so much is public or owned by native corps. But all you'd have to say is, north of fairbanks or something. I take it you can't drive there. How cool. Do you think you would get lonely? I think I would.
Hi! John, I bet you are looking forward to next week to help out your friend! I hope you will be able to have cold temps and even more snow for your travels! When you get the time, it will be great to hear of your adventures! Take care, KC. PS - don't forget the camera!!! The new computer battery will need some use!
Hi John, Hey that's great to take another trip to your friends cabin. I know you enjoy taking care of your friends cabins. Love to see some photos. When you get back I hope you will still have the cold weather to move things to your remote cabin. I hope you can still blog from there. You are a busy man. Looking forward to see how things are going. Enjoy your trip John!
Hey John
Curious how Mike is getting in to the Burma Landing to pick u up.. There can't be any snow on that trail from Flathorn to Burma ldg...
A suggestion on how people in the L48 can get an idea of where you are is to give them a Lat/Long close to your property, let them google it.. They can't see any of the winter trails on google.. Hell, I know where my trail is and I can't see it on google.
I gave up on Winter, Got my south window full of Tomato starts. Gonna grow some of those big, juicy Russian Heirlooms again..!
I hope you get some nice photos of Mike's place, I'd bet it's a very nice place.
Have a good trip.
Old John
Hi Mary, I will put up a post showing the area my cabin is. When I was younger, I wasn't all that lonely, but, in my older years, it does get lonely at times. Mostly when I'm not busy and just hanging out. Stalking would be an improvement in my life, lol.
Hey KC, how goes it? I pretty much feel Winter is winding down now. I don't see it getting any colder. I think the snow is done also. I always enjoy it when I can visit friends at their remote cabin. I won't forget my camera.
Thanks Carol, I enjoy anytime I can get out to a remote area. I think Winter is done. I will have plenty of photos to show on my next post. I hope I get at least one trip to my cabin.
Hey John, thanks. Hope you're feeling better. I have it figured out. I'm flying out to his place by air taxi and he and Nancy will load up and fly back to Lake Hood. Then, when they come back, I will do the same. I don't know what I'm doing gardenwise yet.
Hi John... Good grief I wish we had some of your temp's. Today is real windy, and cold. The sun is hot though, so melting a bit. Today was Maple Syrup Sunday (not that I attend any of the events) but someone said that it was to cold for the sap to run!! Crazy!!
You take care of yourself, and keep us informed. I will try to be more diligent about my blogging and visiting.
Grace
Hi grammie, I wish we had more cold and snow. I try to take it easy but, sometimes it doesn't work for me. I'll keep ya informed.
Hiya John glad to see your getting closer to moving to your remote cabin..yes it has been a long time coming and hoping you find peace and tranquility there..something we all strive to have especially as we get a little older...was hoping you would have found that special person to spend it with you but im sure shes out there looking for you ...just haven't crossed tracks yet :) Im sure it will be nice just to get away to be caretaker on your friends place its a change of scenery and im sure it brings memories of the days when you did caretaking. Its springs here in Alabama its nice but not looking forward to our hot humid weather..Keep us posted ..looking forward to the pictures ...Take care my friend ..Bert From Bama
Hi Bert, good to hear from you, yes, it is drawing closer and very happy about it. Spring is here, I can tell by the +50 temps. I always enjoy time in the Bush no matter where it is and it is very nice to get away from the road system. I'm not worried about a relationship anymore, if it happens, it happens, take care.
I hope you had a good and safe trip. I am so looking forward to spring, as the sunshine and longer days have given me the urge to hit the road and do some exploring. I wonder if we'll have an early spring. It would be nice to see green buds on the trees, but not the awakening mosquitoes! Take care!
Susan
Hi Susan, what a nice surprise. I believe we are experiencing an early Spring breakup. As much as I enjoy Winter, I feel the same as you do.
Will you still get to move to your remote cabin if you don't get another good freeze? Can you fly out with an air taxi?
Hi Carol, it kinda looks like I will have to fly out. I'm presently talking to a someone who owns an Air Taxi business. The rivers aren't looking to good.
