Finally, it's snowing

Hi everyone, we got our first snow a couple of days ago and it was sure nice to look at. It put me in a more comfortable feeling.

Found this picture at the Salvation Army for $3.00 and figured the outhouse is the best place for it. I got a kick out of it. LOL

Took a couple photos of the moon the other night.

Found this brand new Gel Candle at Value Village for $3.50. It smells pretty good and I haven't used it yet.

That's pretty much it for photos. Not a whole lot going on at the moment. I will start cutting firewood this weekend. I'm starting a bit late because, I have pretty much been very lazy.  Not sure why I have been lazy, just have. I realize now, I can't afford to be lazy with the impending snow coming. If we get a big snow soon, I'm in trouble and will have to buy firewood. Although, I sometimes think it's not a bad idea because, I don't use a lot at the town cabin. My remote cabin requires way more.

I was planning on going out before the lake freezes up, oops! Too late, lol. It hasn't completely froze up but, enough that nobody wants to land on it. It will be awhile before I get out there and that's ok. I figured it out, I don't need to rush around or worry about everything. I'm retired and can take my time. I am hoping by next Spring or Summer to get my town cabin sold. That is why I have been doing a lot of improvements inside and outside to make it more attractive and easier to sell. More money also.

I can then concentrate on my remote cabin and it will be a whole lot more fun to work on.

I am presently working on the living room area of my town cabin and have an idea for a significant change that will make it a whole lot more comfortable. I think all of you will like the change as well.

Hope everyone is doing fine and in good health. Take care

John,

I've read through your previous entries but didn't see what I was looking for. (Perhaps I just missed it?) I'd be interested in hearing about what your life was like before 2010. What brought you to Alaska? When did you retire? Was Alaska always a goal in retirement? Those sorts of things. --Bob

Hi Robert, to start, I have been here forever, 67 years, I retired 4 years ago. I'm a very private person as is my private life. What you read from 2010 on has been my life living a re mote life. Sometime down the line, I may share some of my early years, just not ready at this time. Sorry

No apology necessary! You are under no obligation to share any information. :-) I'm always interested in seeing how people made the decision to move to or live in Alaska.

hi John! I LOVE snow. the first real snow is always fresh and beyond beautiful. I would have bought the picture for the outhouse, too! love it. :) ahhhh...candles. I do adore scented candles when it's time to be indoors with early darkness. I agree....it's a time of life not to stress over decisions. that's the joy of it, right?! I can't wait to see what you are doing in the cabin now. I love that you share. as for wood ....well, did my share of splitting and stacking let me tell you! I'm ready for winter now.

Hi Debbie, thanks, good to hear from you. It seems to me,, when Fall and Winter comes, most problems disappear. I actually just started using scented candles. It helps during the dark hours. Ahhh! The wood. Yep, gotta get the wood.

I'll keep peeping to see what's new. I didn't tell you before, but I love the pops of red in the kitchen. and so organized! very, very wonderful. what are your plans for the new front yard area? grass? garden? just curious. take care and happy weekend! Debi

Hey Debbie, thanks again. I figure next Spring to plant grass and make the place more attractive to sell. When living in a small cabin, you learn to organize.

Hi John, Ah... the first snow is so beautiful and fresh. It makes you feel like a kid again. I absolutely got a kick out of the outhouse picture...lol. So fitting for Alaska too! I agree best place for it was the outhouse. I too love candles. I use them more in the winter too. There is nothing like the heat of a wood fire. I am sure you will get the firewood done. I can wait to see your changes to the living room area. Thanks for the photos.

Hi! Gotta love the outhouse picture! It's one of those pictures that will bring a chuckle every time you see it!,,I hope your wood cutting is coming along, we always cut and split every year and know the work involved and the necessity of it. Enjoy the snow and the glow and aroma of the candle! Thanks for the post, I always enjoy them. KC

Hi Carol, it is the simple things like candles and oil lamps that makes life comfortable when living a back to basic lifestyle or at least trying to.

Hey John, where can one find oil lamps now and oil to use in them. Walmart doesn't carry this any longer?

Bushrat John said...

Hey Wash, I get my lamps on Ebay, they have a large assortment of old and new as well as parts and accessories. The prices are better. You can get them on Amazon and lehmans.com as well. I buy my oil at Walmart, Florasense, $6.50 for 64 oz.

Washkeeton said...

Ok so where do I find the oil in Walmart? I have been in the home products area and couldn't find them?

Bushrat John said...

Well, at the Wasilla Walmart, they are located on the bottom shelf in the candle and lantern aisle. If you still can't find it, just ask.
