AH! Rain

Hi everyone, it has been awhile since I last blogged. It is due to being busy and lazy. I have been a little busy outdoors and got to make another trip up to Hatchers Pass. This time, I was able to drive up a bit further than the last time. I'm feeling pretty good and anticipating my trip to the remote cabin. I am also in the gardening mood as well. I have a few plants started.

Road to Hatchers Pass

This Moose was surprised to see me

When me and a lady friend got as far as we could go, this guy was heading up the hill to do some para- sailing

He had a quite a hike up the hill

He set up a windsock

Took some random photos of rocks and plants up there

Entrance for a ground squirrel

Taking a rest on his way up

He will launch about half way up

Now he is setting up another windsock from the ledge he will launch from

This is presently a working mine

He's waiting for the proper wind to launch in

He did offer to take me for a ride and I declined. I'm adventurous but, not that adventurous

Almost time

Lining up for takeoff

"TAKEOFF"

This is so cool, I kinda wished I took him up on his offer

YIKES, he is way up there

Sorry for the blurriness

This is where he landed, just couldn't see him

Probably thinking, Now I have to go up and retrieve my windsock, LOL

On the way back down, spotted another Moose

There is a big fire on the Kenai Peninsula which is a couple hundred miles away and the smoke drifted to my area and discolored the sun

It seems I forgot to take photos of the vegetable plants and the work I did on the inside of the out house. So, will have to do it another day. I will try not to take so long to post again. Hope everyone's Memorial Day was good. I thank all our military past and present for their service and especially those who made that ultimate sacrifice. Take care

Glad you posted again. Wow love to watch the para sailers...that is just cool. As many times as I have been through the whole Hatchers pass drive, I have never seen any thing past a squirl. People talk of seeing bears and all, but I have never seen any of that.

My plants aren't doing so well. I accidentally cooked my chile plants that took 5 weeks to germinate and all my squash plants have seen much better days..most of them have actually died. I think it is the smoke and cool nights.

As soon as the garden is up and running, we will start having yard sales to get rid of all I can.

Para sailing and hang gliding is just plain ol' crazy. The last time I was in Hatcher Pass, I got out to look at flowers or something and picked up a strong scent of bear musk. I just kind of nonchalantly got back in my car and didn't get out again until I got back down to Wasilla! I have no idea how close a call that might have been, but if I can smell a bear, that's just too close in my estimation. Anyway, not going to push it. I could go for a mooseburger right about now, by the way.

Hi Penny, nice to hear from you again. I know what you mean, if you can smell a bear, it is usually close by.

Hi John,
What beautiful country! I am afraid I won't be para sailing anytime soon either. (yes I know I am a big chicken) Loved seeing the moose. Looking forward to seeing your garden. I hope it does well for you. Post soon!

Enjoyed your pictures and the post. I just made a post myself. I too have been just too lazy to do it and not much going on to talk about. My pictures aren't nearly as lovely as yours. :)

John, your scenic pictures going to Hatcher's Pass are amazing! What beautiful scenery to enjoy! Para-sailing certainly would not be for me, nope, no siree! Loved the pictures of all the wildflowers, too, along with the moose! I'm a bit envious. :)

Glad all is well and your garden is doing well. You sure will enjoy the produce.

Take care...blessings!

Any snow? Kids abandoned their camping trip due to rain and snow... We had a lot about 3000 feet. Anchorage got some as well. Suppose to dip to 22 tonight.

Hi John, as always interesting things are happening and great Picts! I thought OMG the guy is going to have to land and run on rocks! The young can do that though!
Nice to see the moose and the flowers etc. Hope your garden is doing well and the wild fires have ceased. Take care, KC
