Hi everyone, it's a New Year and I feel rejuvenated. I have been working on the town cabin trying to make it as comfortable as I can and I am close to getting done. Here are a few pictures of things I have done.I pulled my new woodstove out, it was way to big for my cabin and I replaced it with my stove I use in my wall tent.
It works way better and uses less wood and lasts longer, go figure. I bought a chair from Value Village who wanted $39 but, I talked them down to $29
My neighbor who was with me use to own a large furniture retail store and carried this brand " The Big Chair Co." in his store and told me it retailed for around $500. What a deal, it was leaning to one side, when I got it back to the cabin, I turned it over and it needed 2 small bolts, I fixed it.
This is what the living room part looks like.
Now for the kitchen area. New shelving I built and painted.
I took some evening photos with the oil lamps.
A friend brought this back from Maine as a present for me. I am going to make a nice frame for it.
Back at work, only so far, not as much snow as last winter.
Some ramdon photos
Looking out my picture window
Heatwave
Anyway, that's what has been going on besides cutting firwood. I can't get up to my remote property because the snow is to wet and my lake is unstable. The new news is: I am going back into mushing and will be building a kennel for 5 dogs. I will be running them between both places. So, things are changing for 2013. Still haven't found a BUSH WOMAN yet, still working on it. Anyway, I hope everyones 2013 is a good one. Take care

Have a good New Year John!
Thanks Evan, back at ya
That is a really nice chair you scored for yourself John. Isn't it funny what deals you can get, and make things just like new with just a couple of bolts? I do that too. I enjoyed the pictures and look forward to hearing what you are up to. Take care and stay warm.-Cristi
Hi John- looks so cozy and comfy! Seems like you have everything you need and nothing you don't. Perfect!
Enjoyed seeing all your work on the cabin!! Looks great..love the pictures with the oil lamps on. That looks like a comfortable chair. The picture of the birds is really pretty.
Wow! Will really look forward to your musher adventure...good for you!
Blessings!
Thanks Cristi, it's fun to find things cheap or free
thanks Susie, you're right about that
Thanks Cotton, it seems everything is coming together very well
Hey John you got another cold front moving your way , stay warm .
Box of goodies will be sent end of this month. Are those oil lamps your only source of light at night ?
Love the updated pictures. Glad your friend from my home state gave you a beautiful pic of Maine birds. BUT they should also try to score you a great women from Aroostook County Maine, many are experienced with sledding too. Happy New Year
Hey john
Happy New Year.
These Chinook temps really suck.. Hoping to see some snow from this next low system. I keep thinking I'd call and see if you wanted to ride out to my cabin, but with these high temps, I'm sure there is more overflow on the river than what I want to deal with. Later
Old John
Hi John,
Your place looks as cozy as ever. I am always glad to see pics. Dogs will add the extra challenge of finding food for six now (you and five dogs). Where are you getting your dogs from? I guess you'll have company that way until you find your bushlady.
Carol
Hi Rum, thanks for the heads up. Yep on the oil lamps except when my little generator is running, I have a ceiling lamp
Hey John, I heard most trails are bad. I'm told mine is
Good to hear from ya Carol, finally getting the inside finished. I have been checking local mushers and Craigslist. I'm beginning to think I have a better chance of getting pregnant than finding a woman to join me
I just love looking at your photos they are beautiful and reading about life up north. Thanks so much for sharing and have a wonderful 2013..
Hi Dawn, thanks, I really enjoy taking photos and living the good life. Hope you stay around and visit.
Is that little wall tent stove enough to keep you warm in the worst of winter, John?
I know I've asked this part before too but during the coldest days, just how warm is it in your cabin on average?
I've never been in temps like that before and to be honest, I'm a little concerned about making sure my heat and wood supply are adequate. :)
By the way.. Check out this stove.. They say you can get 8 hours on an 8 inch log. It doubles the burn time through secondary combustion. A little expensive for my taste but something to shoot for some day.

He lives in Alaska too.
I'm not sure if their facts about the stove are accurate though but it sounds good. :)
