Hi everyone, sorry for not blogging lately but, I have been pretty busy getting ready for Winter. I finally got my pole barn finished and yesterday, I spent the day splitting about a full cord of Birch. Now, I need to start on the Spruce rounds as there are plenty.
Now it's time to start filling the barn, which I did yesterday. I am feeling it today. I think I did pretty good for 64 years old. This Birch round needed some persuasion.
Taking a break
Finally, this stack is as tall as me.
Having coffee yesterday morning.
A few nights ago, the moon came out early in the morning, about 2am
The weather has been great here for awhile, sunny clear days, yesterday the clouds started moving in.
Just thought they were kind of interesting. This was the sun setting last night.
Basically, this is what has been going on with me. I will now start working on the rest of the wood and as you can see, there is plenty to split. I can hardly wait for the winter.

Hey John, good to see you!! You certainly have been busy! That is a lot of wood to split. Your pole barn is a great place to store it with some protection for the winter. I have noticed on some other blogs where frost and snow has set in.
I have coffee on my patio and watch the birds in the mornings. I really love living in the country!
Your pictures of the sun through the trees are lovely. The moon pictures are, too. I enjoyed seeing the blue moon last month.
Take care...blessings!
Thanks Cotton, nice to hear from ya.
Hi John..Looks like you certainly have been busy, that is back breaking job...I hear ya on the birch wood splitting... it is a bugger!
Like seeing you in your
element..especially sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee..: }
and I like the fact that you have your fall wreath up on the door..nice!!
Lovely shots sun ,moon, sky !!
I am not looking forward to winter for a while to come ..yikes!!

Hi grammie, I really enjoy sitting on the porch in the mornings, no matter the weather, unless it is rainingor at least until I get my roof over the porch. Actually, the wreath stays up all the time. the birds sometimes try to eat the artificial berries on it. I love winter
Impressive pile of wood there. I have a lot more to cut up before I can say Im good for this yr.
Love the wood shed. Will look right nice there when it is full of wood.
Love all the pictures of course. Yes you do look very comfortable on that porch. LOL
Im really not ready for winter yet. Just a week or so more then it will be good. Have a bit of stuff to move out of my house before the snow flies then when the fire place is opened up again, bring on the snow.

Hey John
you've been busy. wood shed is looking good. Coffee on the front porch in the AM looks comfortable, especially now that the bugs have backed off some. I've got some cleaning up to do in regards to downed timber at the cabin. Already got a lot of it cut and stacked we'll haul it in as soon as the river freezes and we got some snow. Will try to get up your way one of these first days.
John
Hi John. Who takes your picture? Do you have a friend that stops by or do you set your camera on a timer and run back and pose? Just wondering...! I like your wood pics. Reminds me of my days in Colorado. I love the smell of a woodshed. Our wood around my place is too wet to burn well. I've got to figure out something to do for backup heat when the electricity goes out. Everything from my water, my gas stove and my furnace all go out with the power :(
Hey John,
Missed your posts. Glad to hear you're still going at it. From the looks of the barn, you're doing a good job.
So how many cords gets you through the winter? Ever counted?
Talk to you soon.
R.
Hey! Glad to see you're doing well. Good looking poleshed there. I wish you luck getting ready for winter. I find I never REALLY get ready (and I'm not in AK), I just get as far as I can... Winter is my favorite season too... Stay safe! -Dave in PA
Thanks Wash, I wish I could get the rest of the wood split but, it has been raining forever and still is today. I wish it was snow.
Hi John, you may have to come by boat if you are going to visit, LOL
Hi Carol, I take my own photos, Yep, you guessed it, a timer. As far as standby heat, you might consider a drip oil stove or get someone to hook up an electric cord from your electric to go outside then, you can plug it into a generator and have electricity. That's how I have electricity.
Hi R, last year it took about 3 cords. Stay tuned.
Thanks dave, nice to see you are still around. Winter will always be my favorite.
I still have some old stuff to cut up yet as well as 3 tops of the last 3 trees I was cutting on. I stopped when it started raining and it hasnt quit yet. I am sooooo sick of the rain. After my wood is cut a freeze will be nice cause it will split easier. Most of my outdoor activities I had planned to complete have come to a screeching halt due to the rain, rivers and lakes in my yard.
Went to anchor town yesterday and the wind was blowing. It is blowing here today but nothing like yesterday.
Suppose to be nice for the next 4 days... We will see. Im not going to hold my breath but will continue to hope for the best and getting the rest of the wood cut and piled up under a tarp until it freezes.
Working some in the house as well as resting. I have been going pretty hard this past summer so I pretty much took a week of down time to catch up on my rest.
Hope all is good for you keep posting the wonderful pictures.

Just checking in, saw your road mentioned today... Your not floating away out there are you? Sure hope not. This has been a bad season for rain. Check in when You can so we know you are ok.
Wash
We have had such mild winters in Minnesota that I at least ten cords cut and split waiting for the winters that used to be. Unfortunately some may rot before it's burned.
Hi Wash, I am still around. I didn't float away but, some of my neighbors were not so lucky.
Hi Art, I know what you mean. I made the mistake of piling some firewood without covering it and the bottom pieces rotted some.
