Someone reading my blog asked me to put a copy of my cabin plan on the blog so, here it is.
Although, it will be about 4 to 5 feet off the ground. 16'x16' with a loft. I will heat it with a wood stove. I plan to haul water and during the summer have a rain barrel. I will mostly use candles and oil lamps. I will of course have an outhouse and a root cellar. 'm still up in the air about Internet. Sometimes I like it but, most of the time I hate it. I guess, I will wait until the time comes to make that decision. It's just not a priority for me. My priority is living a simple life without complications. I like to walk the land and see things that most people miss on a snowmachine or any kind of motorized vehicle. When you are walking you have less chance of scaring wildlife away.

I haven't followed you for too long and was curious is this a permanent residence? or a "cabin" for recreation? What is the distance to the closest town? Well how remote is it? Road? Any matterial plans(what your going to use) out of the ordinary?
Hey Thanks for posting that it sure looks neat. Ill bet you can't wait to sit on that porch. How many loads did It take your friend to haul all the materials out? You will get quite a bit of snow where you are building is the pitch of that roof steep enough so that if you ever had to be gone for a winter it wouldn't have to be shoveled?
Hey John, hope all is well.
I was always curious about roughly what your yearly expenses are ? minus building the cabin. Also do you ever get about to Fairbanks or Anchorage at all ?
This is definately permanent. It is remote and the nearest town is Wasilla about sixty miles. The only way to get there is fly, snowmachine or walk.
Hi woodsman, I will definately enjoy that porch, I will have a nice view of Denali from there. The number of loads all together was close to 10 trips. The pitch will definately be enough for the snow to slide off.
Hey Rumbarr, I do get to Anchorage and Fairbanks and quite a few other places when I feel the need to travel. The expenses vary and being by myself, it doesn't take much money. Food will cost anywhere from $800 to $1300 for a year. Gas, I usually use anywhere from 20 to 35 gallons. Flying back and forth is the biggest expense which is about $200 a trip.
$200 a flight each way ? How many times a year ?
The site for your new cabin, did you have to purchase this land or pay some type of fee to settle there?
Yes, I bought this land. The number of times a person uses a plane depends on how many times you need to travel to town. It's whenever you feel like it.
I think that will be cool. I can't wait to see pics of it going up if you have time to post some...
Hi Carol, when I start building I will definately post pictures of that amd whatever else I do there also.
May I suggest a simple 12 volt solar panel, storage battery and LED array electric light system that could also power your radio?
Hi, since this posting, a whole lot has changed. You should check out my most recent posts. Thanks for stopping by
