MEMORIAL DAY

                                      U.S.S. OZBOURN DD846

                                                              In memory of

                                                                 ROBERT CORK

ED O'BRIEN

On 12/4/1967 we were on patrol off the coast of Vietnam when our ship received a call for gunfire support,  as we approached the beach, about 1 mile off, we turned broadside and began firing. As we were firing, we started receiving artillery fire from the enemy on the beach. After many rounds bracketing our ship, one round of 81mm mortar went through the after deck at the base of the gun mount where Ed and Robert were passing ammunition and were immediately killed. Another round hit the gun directional room wounding three.

Robert and Ed were my two best friends and shipmates, we spent a lot of time together. We used to spend a lot of time together on the Fantail (after deck) under the stars talking about our dreams and sweethearts. I miss those times and them everyday. R.I.P. my friends, you will always be my shipmates.

Not much really going ont

It's about 9:17 pm.  Decided it was time to let you all know, nothing is going on. Been to town a few times, been cleaning up the property getting ready to have more fill brought in. The sun has been out for a while now and drying the ground up. My plan in the next week or two or three, is to build an outdoor shower room and my shop/storage shed. The lakes, rivers and creeks are thawing out and should be ready for fishing. I have been looking for a canoe or cataraft to buy and do some fishing. I also plan to take some weekend trips for some photo opportunities and to just get away.

The mosquitoes are out, just a few but, still very annoying. I have been eating more healthy and have cut out many snacks, soda and chocolate, yep, my favorite. It's been very favorable to my Type 2 Diabetes. My blood sugar has been averaging 200-225, the norm is 90-120. This morning when I checked my blood sugar, it was 167. This is a big improvement and I feel much better.

Other than that, not much else to say. I do have some photos to share. Hopefully, I will have more.

One of my favorite meals, how could you not enjoy good old fashion American Hot Dogs? Yum
This is a Shrimp Stirfry

Grilled Chicken Strips, steamed peas and carrots and Roasted  Garlc mashed potatoes.

Found this photo taken about 25 years ago when I lived in the mountains, these were my best friends. Joe who has the red shirt was killed in a plane crash coming from a fishing trip. The other is Al, he and his wife moved to Arizona.

Well, that will do for now, I hope to have something more substantial soon. Hope everyone is enjoying Spring. Take care
