MERRY CHRISTMAS

Hi everyone, well it's that time of the year again that I look forward to. There is something magical about Christmas when it brings people and families together around the world.

It is so much fun to have friends and family stop by to help trim the tree and put decorations up and enjoy sitting around drinking hot chocolate and other Christmas drinks.

Please remember those who don't have as much as you do and if you can give a helping hand, please do. Just one simple kind gesture can change a person or a families life.

Thanks to everyone who has stuck by me by participating and enjoying my blog. It means a lot to me and gave me support when things were a bit tough.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR

Problems again

Once again I am having problems with my blog. Sorry for not answering comments but, when I click on reply, a message pops up saying this page does not exist. I have to wait to go to the library to figure out what's wrong. It is a pain trying to use my phone.

Right now, it is +34 degrees and the roads are to icey to travel on. Hopefully they will be better on Monday. In the meantime, I have been outside chipping ice off my deck and pretty much being lazy.

I was informed that traveling out to my remote cabin is not a good idea, some open water has been spotted. So, who knows. Anyway, I am doing ok and not much else is going on, take care

" HAPPY THANKSGIVING" 2013

Good morning everyone, wishing you all a very "HAPPY THANKSGIVING" This is Thanksgiving eve and I decided to make a trip to the library to give my eyes a rest and use a bigger screen { laptop}. It's a beautiful morning, woke up to +30

There was new fallen snow everywhere from last night.

The road to my town cabin.

My new addition....Nissan Sentra

This is why, Winter is my favorite time of the year, everything looks clean and I believe I have more fun, can't wait to get out to my remote cabin. As I said before, my friend told me probably another 2 to 3 weeks.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and remember, if you can help someone or a family who are down and out, give them a hand up. You will feel good knowing that someone is enjoying at least one good day in their life. My gift this year was giving a turkey and all the fixings to 3 families who would have gone without.

Weather change

WOW! What a change, -20 yesterday to +30 today. Last night it snowed and I woke up to 4" of snow. Went out about 11 am and started shoveling. No sooner I start, it started to rain lightly at first then, it came down heavy. It took me an hour and I was soaking wet. The radio reports, the roads are covered in ice.

Last night I talked to a friend of mine out by my remote cabin and he told me it looks like another 2 to 3 weeks before travel is possible. I had really hoped to get out there sooner. It is what it is.

So, I just wanted to keep everyone up on what's going on. Take care.

Saturday at the town cabin

Woke this morning to 0 degrees and the sun shining bright lighting the treetops and a nice hot fire keeping the cabin toasty. I'm thinking another 2 weeks and out to my remote cabin, only if this cold weather hangs in there.

As you can see, I have changed things around inside, AGAIN. I built another counter by the stove and painted it with the red paint I bought for the cabin. Turns out, it looks better on the counter.

Not a whole lot going on at the moment, I am enjoying watching the birds still gathering food, catching up on reading and started listening to books on tape which doesn't make me fall asleep. I seem to enjoy it more when I hear someone else reading the story.

Guess I will close for now and get a couple of things done and give my recliner a break. TAKE CARE

I'm so excited, I just can't hide, lol

Last night it started snowing lightly and this morning I woke up to about 4 to 6 in. Was I smiling? Oh yeah. The first picture is what I saw first then, I checked the temperature and made breakfast. After that, the rest of the photos tell the story. What we really need right now is a lot of freezing temps. To make the waterways safer to travel on. I am hoping to get out to my remote cabin soon.

Getting back to NORMAL?

Yeah, right. My life is anything but, NORMAL,LOL. When my car died, my first thought was, "UH OH" then, survival mode set in. I had to think what I would do in this situation out on my remote homestead. The first thought is, what would I do if my snowmachine died, or the dogs got away from me. I would walk, I needed some gas for my generator which was on a Sunday so, I walked out to the highway with my gas can, stuck my thumb out and got a ride within 5 min. so, if you ever have to hitch hike take a gas can with ya, LOL. Got to the station, got my gas and some ribbing from the crew there, I went across the highway stuck out my thumb and WA LA another ride and this person took me all the way to the cabin. Which indicates there are still some good Samaritans around. Anyway, turns out there is a van service in my area and I took advantage of it to go to the store and to get water from the local spring. The cost was $10, which I thought was a bargain. Anyway, I was glad to figure a way to blog from my phone which is handy but, hard on the eyes even with glasses.

As everyone who keeps up with my blog knows, I have been working on my wood pile and am still working on it although, I have been a bit lazy after getting ahead with firewood. I have taken quite a few photos since October and hadn't posted them yet. I want to build a small shop to work in so, I ordered a truck load of pitrun which is a mixture of big and small rocks, sand and dirt to put down as a base to build on. A truckload is about 5 Yards.

The truck couldn't angle in to drop it where I wanted it so, I hade to shovel it. It may not look like a lot but, it took me close to 5 hours to shovel it where I wanted it. Which is to the right of the pile.

After all the shoveling, this is the result.

I did get half my deck down which I am building on.

The temps. are starting to go down, this is what it has been for a week or so.

Then, it started getting colder.

Now it is back to 20 degrees this morning and the weather report says, it will get warmer and we are due a mixture of rain and snow tomorrow, MAYBE.

I took some random photos around the property to show you what it looks like now.

Here are some random photos.

I decided to buy a cord that plugs into my generator and to the batteries to charge so, I ordered it from a local Honda dealer and had them mail it to me. When it arrived these were included. The sign of a good company.

Well, I need to close for now, I need to go somewhere. Hope you enjoy this post. Take care.

Finally

It's finally happened, the warm weather has vacated. I am very happy, although, I will be happier when everything freezes completely and snow is in abundance. The night temperatures are hitting 18 degrees and right now at 12:15 pm it is 24. As you can see from the pictures frost is everywhere and my cabin is warm and snug. Just wanted to blog something for now and will do a longer blog in a day or two. Thanks

Deep in thought

It is 9:13 a.m. Alaska time and night is giving way to a new day. The sky is grey and a light rain is hitting my roof. I just checked the temperature and it reads 40 degrees, to warm for this time of year.

I woke up about 5:30 a.m. and stoked the fire in the stove and heated the coffee I made before going to bed last night. To me, it seems to taste better doing it that way.

Sitting in my favorite chair sipping hot coffee, fire crackling and looking out the picture window watching the Chickadees arrive for breakfast has a very calming affect on me and gives me time to think.

A couple of days ago my car died and it made worry a bit of what to do. I did sell it as a parts car and got more than I paid for it, (got it free). Quite frankly, not seeing it in my driveway or anything for that matter, doesn't bother me at all. The more I think about it, it was an expense and sort of made me a slave being dependent on it.

I am thinking now, I really don't need it, soon there will be snow and I will be moving to my remote cabin. The only transportation I will need is a snowmachine and my dogs.

There is no better feeling than being free to live  simply and living a life practically worry free. As soon as freeze up occurs, I will depart for my remote cabin. I am also putting my town cabin up for sale. I have a couple of people interested.

My attitude has changed lately in the way that, I will not allow this weather to get me down or anything else for that matter. It's not worth the aggravation.

Sooo, from now on, my posts will not include negative feelings or subjects. All they do is make you have a bad and ruin it.

I wish everyone a pleasent day and future days as well.

Still raining

Hi everyone, I am blogging from my phone so, not sure how this will turn out. It is quite different from my laptop. I posted some pictures and hope they show up. If they do, you will see the wood pile and a brief snow we got. Today it is raining. This is nuts, it is really hard to get anything done.

I still don't have a vehicle yet and because of my location, it is hard to go look at some. But, I am working on it and should have something soon.

I am hoping soon, it will freeze up and we get snow so, I can start moving stuff out to my remote cabin. I am going to close out now and see how this turns out. Later

Yikes!!!

Thanks to those who replied about my testing. First of all, it is still pouring rain and it is reported that, it will rain this whole week. Hope not. I got bad news, my car basically died on me and it would cost way more than it's worth. I sold it yesterday to a guy for parts. So, now I am looking around. In the mean time, I did manage to get some wood cut. Now I have to figure out how to load photos from my phone. Anyway, I am here and doing well. I will sign off until I figure the photo thing. Thanks.

Testing

Hi everyone, I am testing to see if I can blog from my cell phone.

It's been awhile

Hi everyone, I know it's been about 2 weeks and I apologize for that. Thing is, I really didn't have much to say. I had a couple of nice days and had to spend them working on projects. It's been nothing but rain here and it really got me down because, it was putting my projects aside. Anyway, it stopped raining this morning for awhile and suppose to start up again this afternoon.
I cleared out a bunch more trees.

BEFORE

NOW

As everyone knows, I have been cutting up and carrying out the trees I cut last year but, because of the rain, I haven't got that much out.

I did manage to build another deck, it is 8x10 and it turned out pretty good. The bend in the middle has been corrected.

I have enjoyed sitting on it day and evening when it wasn't raining.

As everyone knows, I cannot complete a project without casualty, LOL. I tripped over a stump moving the deck in place.

On my way out to the outhouse one night, it was pretty dark and got the bright idea, it needs light. I went to Lowes and found these solar lights and really like them and they are pretty bright.

I put in a new floor and some 16x16 slate pieces under the wood stove. Sorry, it's a bit blurry

Not sure why the blurriness but, I will correct it when I can. Yesterday, I got a truck load of pit run to fill in a space and as a base for a shop I am going to build. The following pictures are the two decks I will connect together for the floor.

And, this is where it will sit.

I took some random photos

I usually put nuts out for my buddy, I have him trained so, when I say come, he does.

This Magpie discovered the nuts and decided to take advantage of a free meal.

It's nice to see something other than Chickadees and Camp robbers. Although, this Woodpecker showed up. He is a bit hard to see. He is close to the top of the post.

We had a couple of chilly mornings, 2 in a row.

These are more photos after cutting the rest of the trees down.

Sorry again for the blurry photos. I can't hang out and longer, have to get back and do some work before the rain hits again. I will try not to take so long in posting after this. Take care everyone.
