Still around

I'm still around in case anyone is wondering. I just haven't had much to say and haven't been doing much either. Last week, I did a stupid thing, I was heating water to take a shower and kind of forgot about it and by the time I remembered, it was boiling. As I went to pour it in the top of my shower, I stumbled a bit and it splashed out and on to my face and chest. My neighbor drove me 40 miles to the ER in Wasilla and they took care of me. I ended up with 1st and 2nd degree burns on my face and chest. It is healing very well at the moment although, half of my face looks like a boiled lobster. I will not ever try that again. I have been trying to get things done around the town cabin but, between the rain, extreme heat and mosquitoes, I'm not getting much done. I should have some progress and pictures to report by next week. Just wanted to let you all know what is going on.

My trip follow up

Thanks for all the nice comments. When taking pictures of glaciers and mountains close up from an airplane, you can't go wrong. If it were in my power, I would do it all day and the more I think about it when I get enough funds together to pay for gas, I will get my friend to do an all day trip photographing glaciers, mountains and anything else from the plane.
Despite the weather, I did have a good time, we sat in my friends lounge with a fire going and talked about the good old days. As we talked, my mind started wondering back to my days on the Alaska Peninsula living up in the mountains and had every animal you can think of as my neighbors. That was pre digital camera days. I have a ton of photos which some day, I will have them put on a disk and share with everyone.
I have a lot of work to be done on the town property and will soon be getting into it. I am going to be clearing a lot of trees, build a woodshed and a storage shed. Right now, I have a ton of firewood in rounds taking up half of my driveway. Yesterday, it rained hard all day long so, I got to sit inside and watch practically all the movies I had. Watch movies, eat and doze off once in awhile. This past weekend my cabin filled up with mosquitoes and drove me nuts. I had a friend visiting and we ended up sleeping in my friends van. Come Sunday, I figured out where they were coming in and took care of that problem, I hope. A neighbor came by with some powder called "BUHACH" which you put a little in a metal container and light it. It burns like incense and killed all the bugs in the cabin.
This morning when I woke up it was 44 degrees and sprinkling. Had to start a fire to take the dampness out of the air. By next monday, I should have some pictures of the work on the town cabin. Adios.

My Trip

Well, I got back from my trip and it was nice to get away for awhile. The trip out was nice but, once we got there the weather did a turn. Very windy and at times, 2' to 3' rollers on the lake. So, some of the pictures arn't real flattering. I have videos of taking off and landing but, I seem to have trouble getting them to load. I will keep trying. This is the plane I flew out on.

Duck Cabins on the mudflats. When the water rises, people travel by boat to their cabins.

           Approaching Lake Clark Pass

I call this going over the hump. Once over you are in the Pass.
                           The Hump

The next pictures are going through the Pass showing mountains and glaciers.

             Coming out of the Pass

Approaching Sixmile Lake, it's raining

           Dinner the first night.

            Sixmile Lake from the cabin

                  Evening shots

I thought this was an interesting shot. I will have to work on my night closeup photos.

Front view of the property I am looking to build.

There is an old cabin nearby that I can take apart move to the property and rebuild.

There is an old tent cabin I can use as a cabin but, will have to take the canvas off and rebuild with plywood.

This is what the days looked like. Not very sunny

It did rain a lot so, didn't spend to much time outdoors doing anything. I helped my friend open his lodge and we pretty much sat around talking about the old days. We left Monday morning and here are somepics leaving.
Washing machine Island, yep, it has a washing machine on it and nobody knows how it got there.

Pictures of Lake Clark and the Pass heading back to Anchorage.

Approaching Lake Hood in Anchorage where the trip ends.

I do believe I have posted more pictures in this post than my whole blog,LOL. It tired me out. Despite the weather, I did enjoy my time out there. I visited with old friends and just took it easy. I will do another post this week and give you a more info on what I did out there. This post tired me out. Take care and enjoy the pictures.
