Road trip to Denali Highway....8/11/2018 Part2

Starting on the second part of the trip
I believe this is the Susitna River or it could be the Brushkana River. Sorry forgot.

Another long lonely stretch

Looking Good

This is one of the many parking areas for Hunters and fishermen/women

This a very nice field of flowers

This reminds me of the song "it's a long, long, road"

Christmas on the Denali Highway

One of the few bridges on the Highway
Don't know this guy
You don't find many private residences along this highway. Real estate is very expensive.

"WHEW" getting closer

That's a Glacier in the far background

More hunters, this is a big time for hunting, everyone here is hunting for their Winter meat

I'm not sure if this place is being used, built or abandoned. I sure wouldn't mind having it.

Now I am getting tired, sitting here posting. LOL

The Paxon Lodge. Finally, the end of the Highway
I took a few minutes to look and remember back many years when I wanted to make some money and got a job there washing dishes and bussing. It was a fun Summer, did a lot of fishing. The good old days.
Here we take a right turn on the Richardson Highway and head to the Town of Glennallen. That's my cellphone on the dash.
This is Paxon Lake, not sure how big it is but, I'm going to estimate about 10-15 miles long and 1-2 miles across. This is a big lake. It has every species fish you can think of.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Paxson Lake at 48 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 48 degrees. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a smallmouth.

Paxson Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the Water Temperature at 48 Prime Crappie fishing is in full swing. Crappies should be migrating to their spawning areas now. They?ll either be up in the final spawning area now or at tributary entrances. Concentrate around 15 feet of water. Fish Primary points at the mouth of the creek arms. Fish Targets at this point instead of focusing on bait fish. Fish trees, shrubs, vegetation, etc. Fishing correctly this time of year will get you snagged quite a bit since you need to focus on making and keeping contact with the cover.

Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The walleye spawn is in full swing now. With Walleye spawning grounds generally on gravel and rocky bottoms and preferring clean water. Try throwing reaction type baits up in the shallows. Rip-Rap, damns, rocky bottom points are perfect to hit. Try fishing some faster crank baits and spinners this time of year. As always fall back to the standard walleye fishing tactics, but it won?t hurt bringing out the bass gear in search for spawning walleyes. In this water temperature, always be safe on the water.

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arent going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

OK, we're done and I am on the way home. I didn't take photos of Glennallen because, I was tired, hungry and just wanted to get home. So, I hope you enjoy part 2.

I want to take a moment to thank my buddy "OLD JOHN" for donating the wood from 2 trees he had cut down....Thanks John

Great pictures looked like a long enjoyable ride. strange seeing snow when it’s such hot weather here. I’m looking for Fall with cooler temps and beautiful fall colors. Had some rain but it just makes it so humid. But that’s life in the south.Well take care ...Bert From Bama
