Snow, Snow, Snow

Hi everyone,  I woke up to a beautiful sight this morning. We are getting hit with a big snow storm today. I've already been out cleaning the shop tent and wood shed off and I will probably have to do it a few more times. So, thought I would share with you.

It started snowing at our house right after 04:30 by 06:30 when I got up we had an honest 4" accumulated. It kept coming down seriously until about 13:00 when I measured an honest 8" accumulated. it showed signs of stopping by this time and I fired up the snow plow and by 14:00 had the drive plowed. and by 15:00 I'd made an emergency run to 3 Bears and bought a 6 pac of my favorite adult beverage and I'm setting here in my recliner watching the neighbors across the road plow their drives.

Thinking back (into the early part of the last century) a snow storm like that would have been a gold mine for us kids. We'd grab a no 14 steel grain scoop and go knocking on doors asking if we could shovel off their walk way, drive way, etc... Those little old ladies would offer us a plate full of home made cookies, and if we were lucky maybe a quarter, but by the end of the day we'd all have a couple dollars in our pockets.. and we'd be to tired to go anywhere but home to a hot meal and bed.. You'd think the kids today would come cruising by on their 4x4 ATV's with a snow plow attached and try to make a $ or $$ but Nope, they are too lazy to even do that.....

This extra cushion of snow will do wonders for the river trails.. Son and I are headed to the cabin Saturday. Got a huge beetle killed spruce tree too close to the cabin and it's leaning towards the cabin.. going to attempt to cut it down without putting it on the roof of the cabin... If we don't take it down now, one of those strong North East Winds next month or so will wipe us out..
Stay warm

John.....LOVE the addition of the video! We are getting nasty weather here (not quite cold enough for snow but windy and cold rain). Nonetheless.....it is nice to read your blog. The addition of the video gives me a perspective of your place and the distance between your buildings, which I did not have with the single shots. How large is your property/lot? (just curious). Have fun today in the snow........it is beautiful.

That's so nice, thank you for sharing! Is that a solar panel on the roof? Do you have to clean that off when it snows?

Hey John, we got about 8" as well on top of 12". I've only done a basic cleanup. I remember as a kid, my sister and I going down hills in oir homemade sleds our dad built. I didn't get to shovel driveways because, we had none, lol. Sounds like you will have fun out there. I'm trying to set something up with my freighter to haul my docks I built out to my cabin and follow him out. Have fun at your cabin. Stay safe

Cold and rain does not sound like fun. I like the addition of the video as well and will do more and make it better. I have a little under 3/4 acre at the town cabin and 8 acres at my remote cabin.

Thanks Rain, you are quite welcome. Yes, it is a solar panel I had purchased recently. It still works with snow on it but, not as effective. I do clean it off after it stops snowing.

Thinking with those pictures I need to go plow. Lol. I haven’t been out there for a while. Been working here and going to school mostly. There is a weather warning out for tomorrow for up and around a foot...ya dread to see what’s at the cabin. You sound good.

Hi John, I was so excited to hear your voice! My goodness you certainly got all the snow this year. I think you win the trophy this year for sure...lol. Our winter here has been snow, rain, snow, rain. I did not like winter here at all this year. How about shipping some snow down to me...lol. I loved your video! Thanks for sharing!
Take care,
Carol

Hi John! Loved your video! I know it makes work for you, but the snow is just beautiful! Would love to have about 6-8” of it here for the moisture. But, oh my, poor NW Texas would totally shut down after 3” with any wind!! Tee Hee! Growing up in Iowa I remember 10” snows and we’d still have to go to school! Oh, and sledding down the steep hills after we did chores, what fun. Now I live on the flat, flat prairie where a kid has to be pulled on a sled to get any idea of a winter sleigh ride!

Take care of yourself...blessings!

Hi Carol, I think that is the only time anyone heard my voice. I would like to do more videos but, I will have to get a proper camera, like a go pro. I would be glad to share some snow but, you will have to come and get it, lol.

Hi Cotton, I enjoyed doing the video and hope to do more in the future. I remember the early days when we had SNOW, you could walk up to the cabin roof from the ground. I think you guys should come up and make Alaska home forever.
