My old cabin many years ago
The Fitzgerald was built here in Bath Maine. It is kind of frightening that such an accident could happen with all the technology on board that thing. The press keeps saying that the destroyer crashed in to the container ship, however it looks to me to be the other way around. Looks to me that the cargo ship T boned the destroyer.
That's a scary photo, I hope the lost are found. Very sad situation.
A report I heard last night said that the container ship actually deviated from its course and made a turn to hit the destroyer. If that is the case it was a deliberate ramming and no accident.
Hi Mike, I have to say, it does look like the container ships fault unless the Fitz turned into the other ship. I don't understand it myself.
Hey Rain, I hppe they are found as well.
Hmmm! I haven't heard that but, if it's true. It will be interesting to find out the response.
Reports this morn state they were able to get into flooded compartments and recover some of the missing bodies. I spent several years home ported in Yokosuka. Sea Traffic does get a little heavy in that area but with todays electronic technology there should be no excuse for what happened. Old John (CTRC USN Ret)
I as well was home ported in Yokosuka during my 5 tours in Nam. I agree, it should not have happened. I'm glad bodies were recovered and sad at the same time.
