Where is Winter?

Hi folks, that is the big question. So far, we had 2 snowfalls amounting to about 1/2 inch. Everything you see in the following pictures is frost.. That's right, we received more frost than snow.

This past month, the temperatures have been below 0 degrees the coldest was -11 and the highest is 15 degrees which is today. We are still waiting for the snow. In the meantime, I really haven't been doing much because of the cold except, splitting wood.

I have been making a few trips to town just to get out. A couple of days ago, I bought a Lazy Boy rocker recliner for $50.
Well, that's pretty much it for now.  I am working on a post describing my first remote caretaking days. I'm hoping to have it done by next weekend. Thanks for visiting.

Close to +10 C which is around 50F.
Calling for a cold and snowy winter though, we will see.
Looking forward to going ice fishing too.

Take care!

Is it staying any warmer in the cabin this year with the work you did?

Hi Evano, 50? That's Spring here, lol. I am hoping on snow real soon. Ice fishing is my plan.

Hi Mike, it is helping a lot. Using a lot less wood. Hope you and the family had a great Thanksgiving.

The frost has just been beautiful, especially on the clear, sunny days....basically all of them lately....

Yes, the frost can be beautiful but, we desperately need snow.

Hi John, We just had our first snow storm but not much at this end of the Island. We are finally starting to get our winter as it has been warm here too. I love the look of frost too in the morning. Everything is snow white and sparkling in the sunlight. I hope you get snow soon. I am like you, winter is just not winter without snow! I love your new chair looks really comfy. You certainly can't beat that price. I can't wait for your post on remote caretaking. I watch a lot of shows about Alaska and find life there very interesting.

Looking forward to your caretaking post! We have snow. Enough to send you some!

Bushrat John said...

Hi Mary, send as much as you can, lol

Hey Carol, this has been a crazy year. Summer, hotter than I remember and this Winter so far, very cold and no snow. The chair is very comfortable, maybe to comfortable. I tend to dose off quite a bit.

Hi, John. I am brand new to your blog. Where are you? I am a female in Kasilof. It is 20 degrees this morning; going down to 3 tonight. As much as I love summers in Alaska, I still love winter the best.

Will start following your blog.

Hi Cate, welcome. I am located 80 miles North of Anchorage in Willow. It's 2:45 and, it's 11 degrees. It is suppose to go below 0. That's ok, my woodstove will keep me toasty. 8-) Hope you enjoyed your visits.

Hi John, its been a funny year weather wise all over, I see on the weather you have an artic mass over AK and it is suppose to travel down to the 48. I expect we will get more cold toward the weekend. We have had an inch or two of snow but always melts. Your new flooring and the work on the ceiling of your cabin look nice,(haven't commented in a while). Hope your frost is covered by snow for you to enjoy! Take care, KC

Hi KC, thanks. The weather here is bitter cold but, we got 7" of snow. Stay tuned for an interesting post.

Hi, John. It is around 17 degrees here in Kasilof with snow on the ground. BUT...I am cozy in my cabin with the wood stove going. I made banana nut bread and, being Southern by birth, a big pitcher of iced tea with lots of honey...yum. Winter is finally here and I am loving it! Hope your week goes well.

Hi Cate, so far my week is going well. This morning is -3 and I am cozy as well.Banana nut bread sounds good, only with coffee. Winter is my favorite time of the year. Enjoy your weekend as well.

Hi, John, Loving your pictures of the frost, also of your cabin. You've done an excellent job of the flooring and ceiling. I know you must be much warmer with less wood usage! We are quite cold here in NW Texas today, 20*, which is pretty cold for us. South of here they got snow and some ice, but we are dry. There is still cotton in the fields, so the snow could wait until we are done. Love a white Christmas, tho.

Look forward to your next post! Blessings!

Hi John, sorry it's been a while and I hope all is well =)

Hey stranger, it has been awhile. Everything is good here. How are things in Florida?

Bushrat John said...

Hi Cotton, good to here from you, thanks. It's -15 here. It's staying very cold. The cabin is coming along very well. I always enjoy a white Christmas.

Coffee is good, too. I did not even try coffee until I was 40 years old (I am now 61). While I don't drink it every day, I read an article about the sherpas who lead the ascensions up Mt. Everest. They drink coffee with butter in it for health. I had heard about people drinking coffee with coconut oil in it, but never butter. I tried it and it's really not bad. I also put honey in my coffee as I try to stay away from sugar.

Winter is by far my favorite season also. I love the quiet snow creates. It is a season of rest for us gardeners and time to get caught up on quilting, rug making, cross-stitching and all indoor projects.

Take care. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Hi Cate, Nothing happens for me until I have coffee. I have coffee time 6am to 9am every morning, no tv, radio or phone calls. I drink my coffee plain. Sounds like you have lots to do.

Cate said...

Hi, John. You ARE a coffee drinker. Yes, I like to stay busy, otherwise my horizons tend to expand body-wise, if you know what I mean. I also have a cute little dachshund that keeps me busy. He is 12 years old and slowing down some (like his Mama).

It is 10 degrees outside now and it is supposed to snow starting Thursday - can't wait!

Did you get a moose this season? Moose is my favorite meat. I have a killer moose sausage recipe I make every year that came out of Mother Earth News years ago.

Well, gee. I rambled on here quite a bit. Will let you go now.

Take care :-)

Hey John
Here is wishing you ( glass of Raspberry juice held up) a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. Hope you get out to your remote property this season.. From what I read, the River trail is good to go... Starting tomorrow we are going to be invaded by kids and grandkids, so will probably be forced to fire up the snow machines and make a run to the cabin.. Just to show them I can still do it... Cheers Old John
