Checking in

Hi all, yep, I'm still around
A couple of you were concerned and had Wash check on me. I just had my 69th birthday and it's nice to know some out there care. Not much has been going on and laziness is why I haven't blogged in awhile. The cold weather has set in and the morning temps have been -1°. Lakes are freezing up. My friend got his plane repaired and will be putting his skiis on. We talked this morning and his lake has 4" of ice. He would like to  see about 2" more by the end of next week and we will fly out to check on both of our places.

I am hoping for more snow this year and I will freight most everything for setting up the cabin. I will be hauling pallets out as well to build a dock for my lake. I will do everything the right way this time and get the cabin set up.

I did some more improvements in my town cabin. I put new carpet in half the cabin and vinyl in the other. I also starting putting a ceiling in after 7 years, lol.

I got me a companion, his name is "Cooper". He's great, doesn't bark, house broken, doesn't need to be fed. LOL
Here is my partially finished ceiling

When I bought this wood stove, I put grey slate under it. Bad idea. They broke and chipped real easy. This year, I replaced them with marble tile which I got for $3 a piece and they are strong.
I have my $40 snowblower ready to go. To tell the truth, I'm not sure I will use it. I do enjoy shoveling. Snowblowers are annoying because of the noise.
This is our first snow

Well, that's all can come up with for now so, I will stop for now and try to come up with something more to blog about. Hope you enjoy what I have shared. Take care

Whoa, it's cold up there. Your life is so different than a lot of ours, so anything you write about is interesting even if it seems mundane to you.

The ceiling and the carpet should make for a warmer space this winter. Looks nice and cozy now.

Thanks Mary, I appreciate that. I do enjoy the cold weather but, more snow will be appreciated.

Hi Mike, it does make a big difference. I am using less firewood also.

That's a good update. Interesting that it's been that cold. Here in MN it used to be that the lakes would be freezing up by Thanksgiving. Last year they were open in the middle of the state at Christmas. This has been a warm fall with no hard freezes yet.

Hi Art, thanks. I think the weather is changing all over. I'm glad to have the freezing weather. I like the idea of the lakes and rivers freezing solid before the snow. It makes for better snowmachine travel and safe plane landings.

I hope it works for you to get up to your remote cabin this time. I like your improvements you've done on your town cabin. Looks inviting and homey.

Hi Carol, I'll make it this time and hopefully, my blogs will be a lot more interesting. Hope to start making the remote cabin more cozy as well.

Fancy! Boy that carpet and flooring make it look really nice. Ya I will check on you if I don't hear from you for a while. Besides, I like reading your posts as much as the rest of these folks, even if I live up here and soon to be down the road. Lol. 😄 You all are colder than us. Hope to see you blogging from your remote cabin soon.

Hey John
Got your winter wood stacked yet? Those Winds we had a couple weeks ago, added to my wood pile, Had a big ancient birch come crashing down.. busted a panel in the roof of my Green House. Easy enough to fix, but that lexan isn't cheep. That snow thrower looks like an old one I had. I gave mine away because it didn't have an electric start. Altho I rigged a 1/2 Inch drill motor to spin the crank until it fired.. The other tip I want to give you is be very careful where you got that chute pointed. The first winter I had one, I wasn't paying attention and it was throwing some of the gravel in the drive.. Cost me a $300 window....
Stay Warm

Hey John, sorry to hear about your green house. Guess you won't have to worry about it anymore, eh? 8-) Like I said, I probably won't use it or, maybe I will. I have a pile of Birch rounds but, will probably get another cord.

Fancy stuff!
Still have my boat in the water here although it's getting colder.
Always enjoy your posts.

Hi Bert, thanks for the belated birthday. I'm sure I will get there, just a matter of freeze and snow. I don't know what I would do without snow. It's my life.

Thanks Evano, having a boat in the water is always good, for hunting, fishing and of course, pleasure.

Hi John,
First I want to say Happy Birthday John! I love the new flooring, it must keep your feet much warmer and looks great! The ceiling looks great too and will help hold in the heat. I am jealous to see snow, we have been rainy and windy here. Glad to here the plane is repaired. I hope you can get out to the remote cabin now. Thank you for the update and your posts are never boring. I love your blog and check it all the time to see what's up in Alaska!

P.S. Cooper is so cute!

Now that the snow is there, do you have your birdfeeders up yet?

Bushrat John said...

Thanks Carol, I appreciate the kind words. It's snow but, not real snow. It's very icey. Our temps. have risen along with drizzle.

COOPER says hi, lol

Bushrat John said...

Sure do and the birds are here every day. I keep the feeders up year round.

Washkeeton said...

The weather became tolerable so we could get the tent down and outside cleaned up before the real snow falls. Lol. We will do day trips until it is insulated and we have a heat source. 😳 Lol

So glad to see a post from you. I haven't been checking as often, unfortunately, so I was happy to see this today. :) Your place looks great! You've been hard at work. Stay warm this winter. We're hoping for snow here in Fairbanks. Once it gets cold, we're going to need that insulation or our wells and septic systems will freeze up. Weirdest weather ever! A dusting of snow on Halloween. First time we had less than an inch on Halloween since 1940. Anyway... good to hear from you!

Bushrat John said...

Kool, sounds like you guys are making headway. You will be happy once you get settled in.

Hi Susan, really nice to hear from you and it has been awhile. You aren't alone, I haven't checked in as well but, I will start more often. I do miss those wonderful pictures. I agree with you on the weather. It's crazy to not have more snow than this. Thank you for the nice compliments.
