My cabin trip

Yep, you read right. Finally made it out to the cabin. My friend Randy put skis on the Supercub he bought from the Alaska State Troopers. This is Randy
This is Randy loading the plane at his house on the lake. His lake is pure ice. The wind was blowing quite a bit and was a bit of a chore trying to taxi away from the tie down.
These are photos taking off and traveling to my cabin. I'm in the seat behind Randy

These are views from above
This is Mt. Susitna, also known as Sleeping Lady. Certain times if you look hard enough, it looks like a lady with long hair sleeping with her arms folded over chest.

This is either a big pond or a small lake, depending on how one looks at it.
Some more photos

When we got to my cabin, we tried landing on the lake but, the temps. were so warm all week, we kept sinking in trying to land. So, we went to the other side of my property and landed on a packed snowmachine trail. This made it so hard to walk to the cabin carrying a bunch of things. Even with snowshoes on, we were sinking up to our knees. I gotta tell ya, I was plain tuckered out by the time we made it to the cabin. The main reason going there was to drop off my remote phone service. We have a company that provides a Yagi antenna and a box much like the one you have for tv. You raise up the antenna and point it towards a remote cell tower then, there are two wires that you hook to a 12 volt battery and hook up any home phone. I will have pictures when I go back. Parked on the trail.

Here are a few photos of the cabin. Had to shovel the snow just to get the door open.

I tied some surveyors tape on trees so if I snowmachine there in a snowstorm, it will be easier to spot.
I would have taken more photos but, the snow was so soft and deep, it was to hard to move around. I will do better the next time. Hope you enjoy, Ii know you all waited a long time. I am looking to go back in a couple of weeks. I told you it is small, lol. Take care.

You sleep up in that loft? I'm a fan of small cabins. Easy to keep warm.

Hi Mary, actually, I sleep on a cot below where it's cooler.

Hello John....
Thanks for the post - I am trying to get a handle on logistics. About how far away is this cabin from where you have been living? It sounds like you own the property, so how much acreage is in your lot? Are you ever concerned that your cabin will get broken into while you are not there? From your pictures, the scenery surely is beautiful and I can see why you go there! Thank you. Chris

Hey Chris, it's about 45 miles West from my town cabin. About 30 minutes by plane, 2:45hrs. by snowmachine.I do own the property and it consists of 10 acres. I'm not concerned it will get broken into. People leave their remote cabins unlocked in case someone has an emergency and needs shelter. Otherwise, someone who needs shelter may break a window to get in. Just don't leave anything of value in there. It is beautiful out there.

Hey John you made it! Yahoo!I understand why you want to go there. What beautiful country you live in. The mountains are beautiful and with all that snow. I'm jealous of your snow. The cabin is small and cute, just the right size. I look forward to see more photos and what live is like in remote Alaska. Thanks for sharing John!

Hey John
Nice. Glad you finally got out to your remote site. I was going to attempt another run to my cabin last week, but woke up to 40+ temps and a drizzle, and I just didn't want to mess with the soft snow after we would have gotten off the river trail. It doesn't look like we are going to get any more cold wx or snow. Might be time to start looking at the boats, and getting them ready for the season..

Hi John... crazy but amazing life you live. If I was 20 years younger I might be able to handle this but not at my age. Just got of the hospital, after major surgery just glad to be outside.
Love the landscape shots, beauty country. Now who needs a big house or cabin. The cabin looks big enough, you love that place!!!!

Nice!
Big place, more room to store more junk.
Looks about right to me for a single guy.

Looking forward to more pics.

Hey John, I think your right. I want to make a trip or 2 by snowmachine but, not alone. The Tripod is usable. I hope this weather holds out but, you never know. I'm glad I have a pilot with a plane now. It will be nice going out this Summer and getting work done..

Hey grammie, glad to hear you are hanging in there. For me, age won't slow me down. That's why I do the things I do. I agree, I do have an amazing life. Take care of yourself.

I actually could see the woman with her arms crossed as you said. Love the view from the air but don't think I am ever going to be in a plane, at least not with such a nice view. Your cabin is definitely small but looks like you have everything you need. I know you were glad to get to visit it.

Hi! John,, So glad you made a trip to your remote cabin! I enjoyed the pictures and hope you will be able to make another trip soon.
I am sure it all depends upon the weather. We are into spring, but still may have a few snowflakes this week. I'm looking forward to working
outside in the garden. Looking forward to some summer Picts of your cabin to show more beauty of the area! Take care, KC

Hi KC, Sorry for the late reply. It was a very notable trip and will go back soon. We got an inch of snow yesterday. March and April are kinda strange months, you never know what will happen weatherwise except, it will be messy. Pics soon.
