Reality has struck, I can't fight it

Hi everyone, sorry for taking so long in posting.  I have been spending a lot of time looking at states and property to relocate to and it has taken up a lot of my time. I never thought it could be so time consuming and a bit tiring. It also has been a bit depressing. There was a time in my younger days it wouldn't have bothered me so much. I will say, it has taught me a very valuable lesson about myself. You can take the person out of Alaska but, you can't take Alaska out of the person as the saying goes.

I have decided NOT to leave Alaska. This is my home and always will be. I don't know what I was thinking, that I could just up and leave to go somewhere that is scarier than coming face to face with a bear without protection, LOL. I have to much history and fond memories here. Not to mention a very good life. I will change a few things. I will work on both places without complaining and start traveling more around the state. I am presently looking at buying some more property close to where the Salmon are and use it as a subsistence fish camp.

Another thing that influenced my decision is, I broke out some actual photos, that I have taken over the years and brought back a lot of memories and I don't mind saying, it got me kinda misty eyed. I miss those days so much. I had way more fun back then, especially my remote lodge caretaking days. I had met some really great people and rubbed elbows with some very wealthy ones but, you wouldn't know it. They didn't advertise the fact that they were wealthy. Funny thing is, some of them were more impressed with my lifestyle than theirs.

The thing is, this has been an awakening for me and now know for sure, my life is good. Plus, I'm very happy that many of you stuck by me and keep commenting and given me good advice and soothing advice. There has been a few times, I felt like ending this blog and even getting rid of this computer. Not so much now, or at least for the moment, you how I change my mind a lot, LOL.

Anyway, I think you will like the new change in me, no more drama, depression, disappointment, etc. It's raining like hell today and has been for quite awhile. Haven't been getting much done. By the way, I am redoing my kitchen area again {what's new?}. So, when it's finished I will post the pictures. There will be a lot of changes before the snow flies.

As far as finding a companion and partner, it's still on my mind, I figure if it happens it happens. I may do a post looking for her and see if it works. I know a gal who did one on her blog and it worked out good for her, so far. I have a few random photos, nothing special but, will do for the time being.

This pic was taken about 20 years ago in the mountains on the Alaska Peninsula. Yep, that's me in the middle

This was taken about 7 or 8 years ago on Lake Clark. Taking some gals for a ride. Sometimes, I think I was born with white hair,LOL

A couple of cloud photos, I love clouds. Each one is very unique.

I'm back to cooking more and cooking from scratch. Trying my hand at real Chinese, it's not as pretty as in the restaurants but, tasty.

The temperature got kinda cool a couple of mornings ago which ended my garden.

You know it's Fall when you see this sight.

Bought this KeroSun heater at a garage sale for $20 and it works great this time of the year to take the morning chill and dampness off.

I forgot, one more dish, I made this concoction of fried potatoes, onions and Parmesan cheese.

Well, that pretty much covers the news for right now. Hopefully, I have put some brightness in your day as well as mine. Take care

Hi John, some times it is best to stay with what you know. It can be a scary place out there even for those of us used to it. No reason though you can't try a bit of something different once in a while. A bit of vacationing to some more urban areas even withing Alaska just to get you out and about and increase your chances of a strike is not a bad thing either. Kinda like fishing. If one eddy does not give you a hit , then you try another spot on the river. Get out for a visit with other folks and eventually you may find the right match. Might not be a full time deal, kinda together but not scrambled. You visit and share some time together but you also have the space to to your own thing. Love the photo of the 185 on the beach.
Good luck, Michael in Maine

John, Glad you decided to stay in Alaska. I enjoy reading your blog and seeing your pictures. A change like you were talking would be really big. I'm like you in that I would love to give Alaska a try but my roots are here and I know they always will be. Maybe a vacation to Alaska will be in the cards though. Good luck to you.

Bushrat John said...

Thanks Rick, yes, roots are strong. I hope you do make it to Alaska some day.

Glad to hear youve come to a decision. If you dont mind me asking have you always been in alaska? Have you seen much of the world? Its always interesting to know where people are from orignally. I was from rockford Ill. til a divorce brought me to Nebraska as a little kid. What about you? Thanks

Bushrat John said...

Yes, I have always been here, as a young man, I did travel to many countries, compliments of the military. I would assume divorce has a way of changing peoples lives.

John, this reminds me of a song that in some ways I really relate to, "Baby the Rain Must Fall." Do you remember it? "Some men climb a mountain, some men swim the sea, some men fly above the sky, they are what they must be...the must fall, the wind must blow...where ever my heart leads me, I must go." Hope it's not too corny to say, but I love reading how you seem to always be following your heart, even through the rough patches or the boring (maybe lonesome?)streaks or the confusing, unsettled feelings. So encouraging to hear your gratitude for the way your life is and has been and where you are at this
moment. I'm glad you haven't given up the blog! I think you have a far-reaching influence with it.

Hi Penny, really nice to hear from you. I like that, really sweet. It kinda sets me at ease. Thank you

Hi John! So glad you decided where you are probably the most happy. The decisions can be difficult, but you are wise enough to listen to your heart. I do think the lower 48 might be just a tad too populated to suit you.

Your meals look delicious! Can't wait to see your renovated kitchen! I really enjoy all your pictures, too. Always glad to see what is going on with you!

Take care...blessings!

Thanks cotton, I'm glad I figured it out before I got myself in trouble. It actually got a bit scary.

Hey John! Glad you decided to keep things going! We all go thru periods of doubt and questioning things, you just need to trust in the Good Lord to keep leading you. I think I speak for all your "followers" when I say we're proud of you and your accomplishments. So glad you're finding some contentedness and THANKS for posting! Keep trucking my friend! -Dave in PA

Hiya john.. well as tha ole say n goes " sometimes we don't know if we need ta chit or wind our watch" lol I think as we get older its just a time we get unsure of our lives and think we need to change things. But when the dust settles we find "Home" is where our hearts are... sweet n simple...glad you made the decision to stay don't think you would be happy anywhere else. You just keep being positive and just get out and visit more... seclusion has its perks but we all need friends in our lives... take care of yourself my friend .... Bushrat John said...

Thanks Bert, always good to hear from you. The dust has settled and am very happy with my decision. You're right about getting older, the mind gets a bit cloudy with age.
