Checking in

It has been a while and as usual, it was basically laziness and trying to get things done in between the downpours. The rain is just not letting up at this time. It is very hard to get anything done. Last week there was a break one day and was able to paint and install the wood stove I acquired.

  THE OLD LOOK

  THE NEW LOOK

When you think about it, A little paint can make a difference. I did manage to get it installed, just before the rain came again.

Yeah, the old man still has the strength

  Finally

The red around the base is tape, I caulked the base and it started raining so, I figured the tape would protect the caulk. It didn't. A few days later we got a real torrential downpour and I discovered a leak. Not big but,  still a leak. I haven't been able to fix it yet due to the constant rain. Hopefully it will stop raining before Winter, LOL.

I have my buddy that likes to hang out although, I believe he has ulterior motives, the nuts I supply him with.

The first Moon showed up at least for me and I was really happy to see it. As a matter of fact, I sat on the deck drinking tea just looking at it. I am also glad to see nightfall as well. Easier to sleep. I even saw stars.

Here is a salad I threw together, lettuce, onions, carrots, corn, mushrooms and Italian Dressing. It was pretty good.

Made a pot of soup also, tastes good on damp rainy days. Turkey macaroni, pinto beans, green beans, corn, onions, mushrooms and there may have been a few other things in there, just can't remember.

Took a few random shots

As usual, these are taken from my deck looking into my yard.

Took these yesterday, just before it started pouring rain again. It seems to clear up for about 10-15 min. and wham, the rain hits again, hard.

I am really hoping the weather will get better soon but, listening to the weather reports, it doesn't sound good for the rest of this week. I will have to put up with the leak over my wood stove for a bit longer or come up with an idea. My thought right now is to cut a piece of plywood to fit around the double wall, tar it and slide it up to the roof and connect it someway with small screws that don't go through the roof and hope that does the trick.

I hope this is somewhat entertaining until I get better weather or figure something else out. Take care.

The only comment I have about the wood stove is that I personally would have put a base of some sort under it so it is up a bit higher verses on the floor. I wish I had made a hearth of some sort under mine now. I get tired of sitting on the floor to feed it. Cooking is a bit easier when it is higher up and your not having to bend over all the time. Other wise I feel for you with the rain totally.

I have a friend that posted pics of the termination dust down to almost 3500 feet.

Love the pics as always,

Hi wash, actually, I have different plans for it. I rushed to get it in because of the rain. I wanted it in to deal with the dampness and the chilly mornings now and then.

Your stove looks nice. Sorry you're having so much rain.

Thanks Carol, it works good taking the dampness out of the cabin.

Hey John
nice lookin stove with the paint job.. I'm surprised you put it where you did. But then if your doing any cooking with it, that makes it more convenient to the galley... Flood warnings are up for the Yentna and Big Su. Are you high enough above your creek ? Sure hope this isn't a repeat of last moose season. Man I'm really getting tired of this liquid sunshine. Keep your powder dry.

I have seriously considered burning a couple of fires here as well, to dry out the house...I totally understand..

I didn't mean that comment to sound so bad. Sorry. Love those old stoves and yours looks so much nicer with paint.

Hi John, Not to worry, I am high and dry from flooding. I agree, time for the rain to go.

Hi Wash, didn't take your comment as negative. Feels nice to have that wood burning when it's damp inside.

Hi Wash, today and Sunday is suppose to be nice so, I am working this weekend. Nice having a break from the rain. I didn't post because of the lack of people visiting my blog. I feel it is getting boring. I don't know.

Na, not boring, just a lot of folks getting ready for winter, I'm guessing. I've been busy trying to build the arctic entry, planning on butchering the pigs soon, and needing to get the wood in...plus a hundred little things before the snow flies. I'm betting the numbers go up as soon as folks calm down for the winter. I'm hoping to take a day to drive out your way before I go back to work.

You are doing some great cooking! And, working outdoors I know you've got a good appetite. Thanks for the photos. I'm sure you know, how fortunate you are, living the simple life up in Alaska. Enjoy.
