My Valentines Day

There were no flowers, candy or even a babe to have dinner with. I did go outside and work. I am clearing trees to build a dog kennel for my sled dogs. Here is a tree that bought the farm. The kinda middle one

You would think a big tree would produce a lot of wood, not so.

The end result

That's it....2 1/2 hrs. work

In the grueling heat

Anyway, I hope the rest you enjoyed your day of romance. See ya next week.

I was going to say the same thing... Your wood shed looks a might empty there...

Lots of stuff going on here, taxes, sending in bills for reimbursement from dr visits, and so on...none of these sound really wonderful, I know... Other than that, not much happening around here. Plowed, and with in a couple of hours the space is full again. Having the top of my chimney cleaned out tomorrow morning. Can't wait till I can have fire again. :-).

Found the wood stove I want when I build my cabin. It is fairly large but it is only $400. Not bad as wood stoves go, will be able to both heat with and cook on it. Trying out gear and getting rid of some stuff, replacing it with better stuff while I have the means to do so. Down sizing still going on.

By the way, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!! :-)

Lotta hard work, there, John! Your thermometer reads warmer than I was here a couple of days ago, but know your and my winter is not over yet.

Lots of ice on that roof!

Be careful...blessings!

You are building a kennel. Can you post pictures of your pups? I see one in the canoe shot. Happy Winter up there from New Jersey!

Hi Karen, I don't have all my dogs yet. I am just getting back into mushing after a 15 year break in mushing. I do have 1 dog in training. Also, I post when I go to the library Wednesday.

Hi Wash, sounds like you have a lot going on. Congrats on the stove. I am working on the firewood. I am glad my stove doesn't require as much wood.

Hey Cotton, that temp will change soon. More snow coming. I always try to be safe.

I just lost my Alaskan Malamute so was feeling like I needed to see some mushers! I will look forward to your posting when your dogs arrive! It is so cool what you are doing. You have no idea of how jealous I am! The weather called for freezing rain today but luckily, it is snowing on my horse farm!!! Best regards!

Hey Karen, sorry for your lost. I know how you feel. I had a Siberian Husky that was killed by a truck. He was my no. 1 best friend and still miss him today. You can be a musher also. I like horses, I often think how cool it would be to have a riding horse and a pack horse and roam the moutains.

You know I have often thought of how neat it would be to pack in horses and explore too, the feasibility of keeping them in a remote area just isn't there...unless you have a very very large area to grow hay, as my friend does around Nanana. He raised 7 kids in the back woods out there and they have a full hay field plus most farm animals.

I would be able to feed my stove a lot less wood if my place were even half what this one is. LOL. I have been down sizing so a small place will be sufficient. I want to decrease the wood need for where I'm going to be living.

Our Malamute, Cody, had bone cancer. We had to put him down which was AWFUL! Then, two weeks, later, our Norwegian Elkhound, Kaylee, died of a broken heart as well as old age. I am so sorry about your Husky. My horses are very cool, yes!
The closest I ever came to being on a dogsled was watching my daughter and son-in-law on one up in Vermont. There is a local lady who does the Iditarod. She was on a ride and one of her dogs was ailing. She stopped her race and people gave her a hard time...so dumb. I respect her choice to save the dog's life.
I did get on my little sled a few winters back with Cody on a leash to pull me but he didn't get it and just stood there...oh well!

hey Wash, downsizing is very important. A 16x16 cabin is the perfect size in my thinking. That is the size I will build at my remote property.

That would have been a Kodak moment, you sitting on a sled and your dog looking back probably saying...YEAH RIGHT, lol

LOL I have thought many times over what I'm wanting to do and the one thing that I keep returning to is a 16x20 with a 6ft built over porch and a loft for the little one at the other end of the place. LOL I have drawn out the place in my mind but really need to put it on paper to make sure it will work.
