Just being bored

Well, there isn't to much going on. Kind of boring since my last post. We have been getting snow off and on, today it is snowing lightly but, coming down fast which means more shoveling or maybe not. I think I will revert back to BUSH PLOWING, that's when you put on your snowshoes and tamp the snow down, a whole lot easier than shoveling. It actually levels out the driveway also. Right now, there is a big hump right down the middle. Wednesday I went to Wasilla and picked up plastic for a vapor barrier on my ceiling, finally. I got a request to see my sled dogs, I really don't have them yet, I am waiting until Spring to build kennels for them, I really don't like to chain my dogs. I did get a dog from a neighbor who didn't take care of him very well and his name is "Max".

"Max" isn't a sled dog but, thought he may have potential so, I decided to take him and see if I could train him. He is a good dog except, he is an escape artist and he barks and howls constantly which is the fault of the previous owner by not giving him personal contact.

This and escaping is what he does best. He is 2 years old.

I took him to a friend of mine who was going to keep him for 2 weeks and run him with his dogs, the first day, he ran "Max" for 3 hours and he did fair. When they stopped for a break, "Max" started a fight with the dog next to him and when they got back to the yard, "Max" started postering the other dogs trying to become the Alfa dog. That don't work. Anyway, my friend brought him back and said he is to agressive with other dogs. I really liked "Max" but, I ended up giving him to another friend who has nobody and has 100 acres of land for "Max" to roam to his hearts content. I sure wished he worked out. I will stick to my original plan and pick up sled dogs already trained in running. Other than that, not much else going on. Next week, I should have something more interesting.

Wow, what a pretty dog, too bad he didn't work out but I know all about the aggressive behavior since I took in the two new ones.

Ya my greatest lesson was to get a team that runs together. I would get a dog and then another, then another one and so on down the line. Ended with 2 teams with the 12 dogs...a faster team and the slower one.

You could always end up with the " greatest leader, Borris". Didn't matter the commands I gave him he did as he pleased. Called him the leader from hell. LOL

too bad Max didn't work out for you. Good lookin Dog. Putting up a vapor barrier in the overhead will probably cut down on your wood consumption - I'd think anyway. Been thinking about upgrading the 20 yr old furnace in this house to something more efficient, and cut down on the gas bills. Gonna try to get up that way one of these days. keep warm

I found this very interesting about the dog. Don't underestimate your unique life. We wouldn't be reading if we didn't find you interesting... :)

Interesting about the dog. Too bad to but here's always one that comes around with a bad attitude. Upbringing mostly as what I have found. Can't wait to see the team! Take care.

Hi Wash, I will stick to getting dogs that know what they are doing.

Hey John, I was really hoping "Max" would have done good myself.

Hi Carol, sometimes I can be hard on myself. Thanks

Hi Hiker, the person I got him from spoiled him, not interacting with him and letting him run free. Hard to train a dog that gets the taste of freedom.

One of these days I need to pull out all the sled parts I have and get them put together so I can have a second sled...bought them when my daughter was young and still have them. I built my first sled... Couldn't get the knots down so I didn't get the freighter sled built that I wanted to. Haven't had the time to work on it since moving back to civilization... I have the tools and make my own lines as well as drop lines and on occasion the harnesses too...

The dog is beautiful and I think he deserves his chance to be an alpha on a 100 acs. Im sorry he didnt work out for you but you did a good thing and I am sure your rewards are coming. Well Done. As for "boring" well we all know the grass is greener so we tune into your blog among others. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
