Just being bored

Well, there isn't to much going on. Kind of boring since my last post. We have been getting snow off and on, today it is snowing lightly but, coming down fast which means more shoveling or maybe not. I think I will revert back to BUSH PLOWING, that's when you put on your snowshoes and tamp the snow down, a whole lot easier than shoveling. It actually levels out the driveway also. Right now, there is a big hump right down the middle. Wednesday I went to Wasilla and picked up plastic for a vapor barrier on my ceiling, finally. I got a request to see my sled dogs, I really don't have them yet, I am waiting until Spring to build kennels for them, I really don't like to chain my dogs. I did get a dog from a neighbor who didn't take care of him very well and his name is "Max".

"Max" isn't a sled dog but, thought he may have potential so, I decided to take him and see if I could train him. He is a good dog except, he is an escape artist and he barks and howls constantly which is the fault of the previous owner by not giving him personal contact.

This and escaping is what he does best. He is 2 years old.

I took him to a friend of mine who was going to keep him for 2 weeks and run him with his dogs, the first day, he ran "Max" for 3 hours and he did fair. When they stopped for a break, "Max" started a fight with the dog next to him and when they got back to the yard, "Max" started postering the other dogs trying to become the Alfa dog. That don't work. Anyway, my friend brought him back and said he is to agressive with other dogs. I really liked "Max" but, I ended up giving him to another friend who has nobody and has 100 acres of land for "Max" to roam to his hearts content. I sure wished he worked out. I will stick to my original plan and pick up sled dogs already trained in running. Other than that, not much else going on. Next week, I should have something more interesting.

My Valentines Day

There were no flowers, candy or even a babe to have dinner with. I did go outside and work. I am clearing trees to build a dog kennel for my sled dogs. Here is a tree that bought the farm. The kinda middle one

You would think a big tree would produce a lot of wood, not so.

The end result

That's it....2 1/2 hrs. work

In the grueling heat

Anyway, I hope the rest you enjoyed your day of romance. See ya next week.

Cabin Fever

I must admit, I am suffering from cabin fever or it could be Socialization Problems. I haven't figured it out yet but, I am betting on the latter. To tell the truth I really didn't get cabin fever when I was remote and I had more friends and visitors out there than here on the road system. I really don't care to travel much on the roads here and driving on them is an experience in itself. I know only a handful of people here and the problem is, I am to far for them to travel and mostly they live in Anchorage and I will not go there. I have come to the conclusion, I am really out of my element here. I made myself a promise that by the end of this summer, my living arrangements will be different whether it is at my remote property or some other remote place. I may rent out my town cabin by the month or by the day, not sure which but, am leaning towards the latter as that would give me a place to stay when and if I come to town. I am looking at a cabin on the Kuskokwim River by McGrath but, not sure yet.

I know I haven't posted pictures lately do to either laziness or forgetfulness or a combination of both. The weather here has been real different from last year. We have a combination of snow/rain, warm/cold. It has been really crazy. I do have some pics to show this time. On the cold nights it has been:

and the warm days: Talk about extreme

The snow, although it hasn't been a lot. It has been frequent making me shovel more.

Then, there was the ice building up on the edges of my roof. That was a job removing the ice. The ice was about 8" to 10" in thickness.

Plus, shoveling the snow off the roof gave me a lot of exercise.

After all that work, I got real hungry and there is nothing better to remedy a hungry guy or gal than soup. During the Winter, soup is my favorite meal whether for lunch or dinner and I have been known to have it for breakfast a time or two. THE SOUP, sausage, elbow macaroni, corn, cut green beans, pinto beans, parsley, onions and diced tomatoes.

Mmmmm! So good

I got a dog sled that I traded for my wood stove. This is a sled made by Joe May a famous  musher from Trapper Creek. I really like it a lot.

I have mentioned that I was doing more inside work and I would post pictures when done. It's not done but, have decided to give you an idea. I painted my walls and it needs a final coat.
Pictures with the flash.

Without flash

As you can see, it makes the cabin much brighter at night. The color is kind of a cream color.

Sorry about the blurriness, hadn't checked it. I like it a lot. Makes the nights a lot better. So, that's pretty much what has been going on. The days are getting longer a little bit at a time which is welcomed. Anyway, hope this entertains everyone for awhile. Take care

A Thought

Checking in

Hi everyone, I know it's been quite awhile since I posted. I have been really busy cutting trees, shoveling snow and clearing a spot for my dog kennel I will be building. The weather has kept me from traveling on the highway. I refuse to drive on the snow and slush filled roads with a lot of crazies. I have a few photos but, again I had forgot to load them on my computer. I believe I am losing my memory and not sure if it is by choice or what. Today as I write, we are getting snow and in for another storm. I have gotten some work done inside the cabin. I recently  came across a cabin in McGrath on 2 acres of land on the Kuskokwim River for $6000. It is a small cabin 10X12 and comes with a wood stove and bunk bed. Not sure if I would like it or not. Everything is going fine and I am fine. I really hope to get back to blogging more often. I think it is cabin fever and it's just about over. I really never use to get it but, recently it has hit me. Probably because I am by myself and haven't gotten out much. Hopefully that will change soon. I may not blog again until next Monday depending on how much snow we get. Take care
