Every day, change is taking place

Every day is a new beginning for me. I am finding more and more my interest dwindling here on the road system. This morning I walked outside with a cup of coffee and looked over my property. What I saw disturbed me, there are things that really don't belong, as they are made of manmade material. I have gathered many of the material things I have aquired that is not needed in a back to basic lifestyle and am either selling or giving away and I find it easier to give away than to sell. I will get rid of my cellphone hopefully in one month as soon as I take care of a few things. The Internet is still up in the air. I plan to build a log cabin at Lake Clark and I will sell my remote property and quite possibly my town cabin. These things are just possessions and more than I need. At Lake Clark, I will have everything I need. Fish, meat, clean water, wood for heat and cooking, mountains, rivers, creeks and glaciers and distance from the influences that have taken over my life. I just don't know what else a person needs in life. Just making this post makes me feel good. I will communicate by letter writing, a lost art, LOL. I know many of you will be somewhat disappointed if I rid my self of the Internet but, hope you will understand. I will at least keep it as I progress more and allow you to progress with me. I am sure you will understand. I will be back Tuesday.

IN MEMORY of  Seaman Edward S. O'Brien and Third class Raymond L. Cork, Jr., my two best friends who served in in Vietnam with me, were killed in action December 4, 1967.

Dear John, thank you so much for your service to our country. It is much appreciated!
I think I do understand a bit about your feeling of having too much stuff...always more than a person needs. I too would like to downsize more, but if I continue to carry on with the farming my late husband and I did, I must still use too much technology because everyone wants to do all the business by computer or fax. I just may retire one of these days and not have to fool with all that stuff. I like it here on the farm with the chickens and coyotes!

Will be interested in hearing all about your changes until you go offline.
Be well...blessings!

As a Canadian, I too thank you for doing your duty to preserve freedom throughout the world.

As the Afgan war winds down, the yellow ribbons are appearing around my neighborhood, the fight for freedom continues, and you are not alone in your thoughts.

I for one sincerely hope that you continue your blog, even if it is only once in a while. I am always interested in what you are up to!
If not, all the best, it has been a pleasure getting to know someone 1/3 the way around the world!

I will miss you too if you are not able to blog. I am one of those people with way too much stuff. I go through it now and then and get rid of a bunch.

Hi John,

Well if you must, you must. I'd hate to see you go though.

Anyway, I hope everything works out for you. Stay safe!

BTW, I'm supposed to close on June 1st for my land. It will take me 1 1/2 to 2 years to pay it off. That should put me around summer on the second year. I should be able to move then.

Take care and maybe I'll see you around.

I understand your need to downsize but I sure will miss you and your wonderful photos. They are the next best thing to being there in person. Please consider posting every now and then if you can.

Thank you for your service and thank you for sharing a bit of AK with us.

John
First off, Thanks for your Service. secondly, I sure hate to see you give up your cell ph/internet. I should talk! I've had a cell ph for years but only turn it on when I want to make a call. This some what irritates the boys and wife, when they can't get ahold of me immediately. Aside from missing you, I'm sure gonna miss your photos. Altho I have access to much of the same scenery, I don't have the knack for the great photography that you do.
Stay Well
John

Thank you for your service Sir! I'm sure you didn't feel like it at the time, but you served a higher calling than most by doing it. If you do decide to unplug and shut down the blog, I can't say I blame you. I comment only rarely, but enjoy following your updates, musings, photos, etc OFTEN. I can truely say I would miss "hearing" from you and have enjoyed getting to "know" you. Hope you keep up the blog-even if only now-n-then. Either way, you're a great man in a great land, and I'll follow until... Thanks! -Dave in PA

Hey John. Seems like you're ridding yourself of the comforts that the rest of us can't live without. Envious is the word. I do hope to continue to hear from you time to time and wish you well.
I do thank you for your service to our country and your tribute to your fallen comrades. I know these words may seem meaningless but they are heartfelt. Take care.

Thank you for your service to our country. I appreciate it very much.

I hope that you will continue to blog. It's nice to have a *line* to the outside world that doesn't take a week to get there (postal).

Good luck with your downsizing. I'd like to do the same, but only because I've got too much useless stuff.

Take care!
